Hello everyone, this post is just about some questions I have for getting started in knife making. I already realize all kinds of general advise like start simple and all that, but there are some specifics I have to figure out. I have heard that Coote belt grinders are the way to go for inexpensive and effective beginner knife making. Do any of you have any experience with these? I'm trying to figure out what accessories and elements of the grinding setup are important or worth it to get with a grinder. Also, should I start with really high quality belts? I have a Lansky sharpening system, but how should I get the initial edge grinds on there in the first place? I figure o1 is a good steel to start with so I can heat treat it myself with a small coal forge. Any random advise you have about starting out, including anything not asked of here, will be a lot of help for me.
