Beginner Two Brick Forge Questions

Lots of good info here. Just thought I would mention that the JTH-7 is a discontinued item, which is why you can't find it in stores. Even so, it's only around 3-4K BTU output.
OLW is almost right, 1095 is hypereutectoid, not hypo. Specifics aside, it's not easy to get a good HT in any forge using 1095. Best to stick to 1084, it's super easy to HT, very inexpensive, and makes a great knife. I know the fancier steels are tempting, but save your money and spend it on other tools than fancy steel when just beginning.
Ahh I see, that does make sense. Also thanks for the advice :) I'll be sure to focus on 1084 right now, have no inclination to go towards the fancier steels ahha. Just as a question, does that burner you linked in your 2 brick Forge for around 20$ work well enough to Forge as well as heat treat? Thanks!

Thank you sir. Hyper Hypo... Couldn't remember which. :)

Btw, back when you helped me out I went by StrigaMort not OLW. Name change is good for business, but lousy when you want to talk to someone that you haven't chatted with in a while. ;)

I knew it was you. My handle changed since back then, also.

The MT245C puts out slightly more heat than a JTH7, around 5K BTU. The Atlas Burners put out 30K BTU. The MT245C w/ a hose to connect to 20lbs. propane is good for HT and adequate for forging, but the burner will cost roughly the same and be much better on both sides.

I see, I was looking at the Atlas burners, if I buy the burner only can I just use my own adapter and hose with a propane tank or do I need to buy it with the hose?

The Atlas Burner will need a variable pressure regulator. A low pressure, like those use on BBQ, only go to .5 PSI and won't get hot enough. High pressure are usually 20 PSI and will run too hot.
