Hi all, just reaching out to all of the knife makers out there for some advice. I'd like to start making folding knives and ideally I would like to do as much of it by myself as I can. I'm wondering if other makers out there could possibly give me some insight on what tools I won't be able to do without and what, if anything, to focus on the most, be it lock geometry, grinding symmetry, etc. My influence will be overbuilt, useable folders like Hoback, Medford, Direware, and similar styles. Any advice is appreciated as I have never attempted to make a knife before but I do know how they work as I am an avid collector. I'm not sure if I would want to make them to sell, I more so want to make one for myself so I have a knife that is completely to my liking but if I am going to buy any equipment and if I turn out to be alright at it, we'll see where it goes. Again, any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Ok well I do all mine by hand and a 2x48 belt sander the rest is a dermal and a cheep drill press and files and that's it . You don't need much to start with and like 1-10 told you make a fixed blade first that way you can get the fill of the grind. good luck

What the count said in post #2
There's a lot to be said for having a few hundred straight blades under your belt. Next best
shot might be a real solid background in Tool & Die.
