What is this model?

I too like the look of your hammer finish. Is there any reason for it other than aesthetics? Also, care to comment on your choice of steel? I cannot remember seeing any W2 being used by Andy or other members of the Fiddleback crew, and would be interested in hearing about why you chose to use it.

Keep up the great work, Chris! I know I am not the only one that really likes your knives and enjoys watching your work mature.

I have really been enjoying the "Behind The Scenes" threads over the last few months. Other than pissing on the floor, I think Phil is doing a great job.

Thank You!!

The Hammer Finish Is Purely Aesthetics,I will be using this and the current on while developing new ones,
I Started using W2 a couple of years ago before I started working for Andy when I was apprenticing under Stephan Fowler. Stephan gave me a rough understanding of forging and heat treating W2. One of the properties I like about W2 and other 10 series steels like it, Is that they are shallow hardening. That combined with a differential heat treat allow for a super hard cutting edge and a softer less brittle spine. The by product of this is an Aesthetic trait I desire called a Hamon or Temper Line. This is a visual display of the differential hardened steel. Depending on the steel chosen it can display its self as a Brilliant Hamon with lots of (Activity) Ashi generaly seen in W2 or a more uniform crisp temper line like seen in 1095.
I am still learning and my last batch I did last week did not turn out. The Heat Specifications and Quench times are really tight and I need to practice more to find the right Ingredient.

Really love that carbon fiber/koa combo (Palmer?) Allen.

Hope that one winds up on the sale thread soon. Though I don't really need another Palmer...I might have to find a way. It's beautiful!

Nice looking thead Phil. Some beauties this week, and some rare ones too.

Is it wrong to want a knife (like that Maverick in ruby burlap?) so long before Friday? It'll probably get away by tomorrow afternoon, but still, if I'm wrong, I don't want to be right.

Taklamakan, it's never too early to start pining for a specific knife but the hard part is letting go if you don't land it on Friday. But if you really want it, study the Tips of the Sharks sticky at the top of the Fiddleback forum and be prepared to be very deliberate with your time and your posts on Friday.

I need a Three Fingered Joe. The hunt is on for my next Fiddleback.
