I use to use copper. I've never used bronze. I've used quite a bit of nickel silver and stainless for bolsters too. I keep coming back to just brass. I disliked copper because it was gummy/grabby to work and it really got hot very quickly. Kinda the same with the nickel and the stainless too. Its very easy to scorch and burn some of the natural materials I use. Done it. Biggest reason though was to make my life easier. I feel that .5 inch stock makes the best size bolster for the majority of my designs. Brass is available in this size. I had difficulty sourcing the other materials in this size so I'd end up spending a good bit of time cutting it down and then grinding it to size and getting it just right is tricky, especially getting absolute 90 degree corners not 89 degrees or something. Wasn't worth the extra hassle and time honestly. So made the executive decision some years back and sit around now making knives not making materials to make knives. Please forgive my asking, Dave.
Do you ever use copper or bronze bolsters?
