Being Blessed.

Whetrock, I use all my knives.
I have a hard time leaving them sit if they haven't had any use. I carry one everyday and I have lots of time to use them all. I love being able to enjoy a different knife every once in a while and if I'm going to enjoy a knife, it's going to be a good one.

Bob, thank you very much for the kind words.
It's always awesome to put a face with the name and meeting you in person was great. I haven't enjoyed a set up like I did your's in a long time, it was perfect. You knew where everything was and you were on top of everything new GEC has out. Seeing the different patterns that have escaped me was too awesome, I see some I want even more now.

Humppa, congrats on your anniversary.
My parents were married on the 2nd of May too. I hope you enjoy it whatever it is, I know you will for sure. I can't wait to see the new one out on a hike with you, can't wait to see it.

Will, are brother sound a bit alike. My brother enjoys gifting me knives and I enjoy sending a few his way as well, the thing about it is, is that he never uses the knife.
I gave him a GEC Mink Skinner and he never uses it. When we were getting ready to head to camp I gave it back to him and he acted as though he had never seen it before. To me it's a mystery, but it's probably just because I am a knife junkie and I think everybody else should be one too.

Kevin, now you have put me on the spot.
I really love my #56 Dogleg, it's fills my hand nicely and it's a great pocket pal, I never thought about comparing it or trying to beat it until I got my #66 Serpentine Jack. The two knives are really nothing alike, except for clip and pen blades as the blade of choice, other than that, they are worlds a part. The Serpentine is just incredibly comfortable in the pocket, not to say the #56 is intrusive or anything, it's just a little bulky when compared to the #66. It's a real toss up in deciding which is best. Now that the #85 has been thrown into the mix, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pick a favorite.

The frame on the #85 is in a class of it's own, simply because it's a classic and it's executed so well. The upper hand for the #85 is the half stops, I love half stops and it's the only one out of the three that has them. The downside is the spear blade, I love clips and I never spend much time using a spear. After I get it in my pocket I am sure my opinion will change slightly.

I would have assumed correctly Johnny :)

I understand what you are saying about the dogleg. The main reason my Case/Bose dogleg lost out to the 85 was because the extra grip and size the design afforded was far out weighed by the sleek, light and pocket friendly design of the 85. I really like a spear blade, but I get what you are saying.

Can you give me a comparison of the main blade on your 66 to the main blade on the 85?

There is a 66 I have been eyeing for so long and I need that push :)

Thanks,

Kevin

BTW, you and your brother are opposite of me and my brother. I give him a knife and he uses it for ten years straight for everything from scraping mud out of his boots to his deep see research trips. And well, he has never given me a knife. I guess he figures I have enough :o

Johnny,
nice post and thread :) it's always good when someone here expresses happiness and thankfulness. I guess sometimes we just need a chance, a moment, an opportunity, to look in the mirror and see what's there all the time: that we are lucky with what we have (be it health, job, family, and so on). So thank you for the thread.
Kevin,
come on...you need a push? I guess you're just looking for someone to "blame" for your upcoming #66... :D

Fausto

Fausto,

You got me :D

Kevin

But really, I would like to see how much blade they packed into the frame compared to the 85 :)

Kevin, the pics are up and are ready for comparison.
I love every one of these knives, I wouldn't want to have gone without testing each pattern. The #56 was my favorite from the get go, it was a solid smooth action pocket knife that really fit my uses. After being tortured by the awesome #66s on here I decided to cave in. When I first got it, it was a little less than stellar for me, I may have even been disappointed, but putting it in the pocket changed my mind. It is now possibly the favorite.

It does as much as the #56, it just does it with more grace and less weight. They are hard to compare and I like them for different reason.

Not the best pics, but they are better than nothing.

Johnny,

You are the man!! Thanks for doing that so quickly and exactly what I was looking for.

That 66 is one solid design :)

I really appreciate it bud.

Kevin

Sure thing Kevin, I hope you take the plunge.
You'll regret not going for it if you miss out on the one you like.

Real nice Johnny, and when you get use to that spear you may still prefer the clip but you'll have a deeper appreciation for the spear then before! I too am quite blessed! I look at my humble collection and think maybe not the player some are here but awfully fancy for a poor sawed off libertarian from east TN!

I recall being at a knife show, that I had no money to buy a knife. I was very intrigued with the patterns, scales, blade styles etc. I handled almost all, but realized, I had no money to spend at that time. I just supported the knife show. I thanked them tremendously, and they were really trying to work with me. I was really impressed with the seller, and the knives too.

Johnny two shoes, you are wise to say that you are blessed. Amen my brother.

Well they will be having another show there in August Caleb and I know Bob will be there. I'm hoping he ask me to tag along again. :D I'll be looking for you if so.
