Since starting to collect blades, I bought one on my list, and went straight to the next one. Always making an excuse, and always looking for a great deal. It's sad, I would get a knife I was waiting and waiting for, then as soon as I got it I'd be looking for a new one.

Now in the last few weeks it's clearer that there is a big chance I'm getting laid off. The feelings have been horrible, as I have a family to provide for. However, it's been a real eye opener for me and what is important in life. Work is important, but not everything. It's not right to plan for the future constantly, you have to enjoy today, and this has really changed how I view life.

I've found that I'm surrounded by great knives! I won't be getting any more soon, as we are watching every cent spent. But it doesn't matter, I'm looking at the ones I have and really finding a stronger love of them for what they are. I'm looking at the collection different now, enjoying them for today. ;) Every time I select my EDC for the day, it's a decision that feels different knowing this is it, no more for a long while. Feels good in a way, the blades I have will now get some much needed love.

I sincerely hope things work out for you and your family, Yo Mama. Your positive outlook and approach to the situation is inspiring...

Best regards,

-Brett

I'm in the same boat as you are, but I lost my income almost 2 years ago. I've bought a few knives recently but I sold something else to pay for them. On our day of thanksgiving 2 days ago I found that I was thankful for my wife and my daughter.

Great post, Yo. Your counsel to have a spirit of gratitude is most wise, and something I very much need to implement. So thank you for that.

Well said, Yo Mama. Words to live by. Good luck to you and your family, I hope things turn around soon.

All the Best,

Cris

Best of luck, hope things turn around for you soon.
I know what you're going through.
Hold your head high and persevere, my friend.

You're such an inspiration. This is the right attitude that we are all struggling to have.
Being 'contented' as my wife used to say to me most of the time. Good words to live by.
With your wonderful outlook in life, i know that all's going to be well for you & your family.

I appreciate all your kind words. It really does help, you can feel it.

Compared to others I felt bad about focusing so much on work. Your family is what matters. I'm lucky for having them, and being in good health.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and looking to a good New Year for you all.

Great message....being content with what you have and need, and deny the materialistic urge to just acquire. That's my personal jihad.

I struggle trying to appreciate the knives I have as well.. I hope things turn around for you and your family soon! Best of luck to you.

Yo, hope all works out ok for you all, in my experience when one door shuts another one will open, Hold Fast, Kris

I need to stop buying knives for a while too. Start saving for a car (14 now) maybe. I have a 350, 560, mili, delica, salt 1 and a few others. I think that's a solid rotation.

I read somewhere that there was a person who interviewed people that where dying and ask them what regrets they had. Most of them said they wished they would have slowed down and enjoyed life more and that they would have spent more time with their family. Something to think about:)

You sir have nailed it. Like the song says, "It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you have." Hope your job situation improves very soon.
