Awesome post.
I'm sorry to hear about your hardships and hope things come around soon for you.
Appreciating what we have is something that most humans aren't very good at until they go without.
I've never had a lot of money, I come from a pretty poor background and have always had to figure things out before I could get something new. A lot of times it will be months and months before I can buy something new. So getting used to what I have, trading, or selling stuff to get something else has been what I do.
A lot of times I've had to sell things off to help the family, and even though I like to keep my things, it's worth it.
I have great knives and appreciate them all. I get new ones when I'm able to and don't have more important things to take care of. In a way, I'm happy I'm not super well off. I think it helps to make me appreciate everything just a little more.
Life is hard, we just have to love what and who we have, give thanks every day, and be happy.
I can't be thankful enough for having what I have and for my mother and brother.
