So I'm discussing knives and stuff at school with the tutor, Mark, in welding who used to be a pro pool player and custom cue purveyor. Mark's really into wood just like I am,and we start talking about building furniture.

We start talking about Sam Maloof... a legend in the woodworking (specifically custom rocking chairs) industry. I tell Mark there's this knifemaker I know through the forums that does super nice Mesquite chairs influenced by the styling of Maloof's. Mark mentions a magazine but can't remember the guys name off the top of his head.

I say, well, the fella I know is Robert Hensarling... hence his screen name of RHRocker.

He says, "I think that's it!!!"

So I start looking through my dad's old copies of wood working magazines, and what do I find???

That's right, Wood Magazine, Feb. '99... "Mesquite Magic - When Texan Robert Hensarling turns his tools to ranchland wood, things get rocking." A really cool 5 page article featuring Robert and his beautiful woodwork!!!

How freaking cool is that??!?!?!

Belated congrats Robert!!!

Not to mention the Wall Street Journal and TV series "American Masters".......

He's a legend in rockers...one of these days we'll all have to go to one of his classes and build us each a rocker for our old age.

Congrats Robert!! I knew he made some awesome furniture and his rocking chairs are famous. I wish I could afford one for my old age.

What good would a rocker do for those of us that are already off ours?

Nice work Robert!

Aw guys, come on now. All I do is take some B-B-Q wood, throw it together, then when it looks right I quit chewing on it.
The reason I love this forum is because I get to see you guys create works of art almost daily:thumbup: Plus, you don't mind explaining your techniques to the rest of us.
So, when I think of all that happens on this forum, and how much I've learned from it, it's my turn to say "how cool is this!!";)

Robert, I appreciate your modesty, but there's just not many folks in the world that can make chairs like yours. And that's a fact!!! :D

The way this all unfolded with me talking to Mark is a funny reminder of how small this world can really be.

When Mark and I realized we were talking about the same guy (YOU) it was a really neat surprise... Kinda like when you put your winter coat on after it's been in the closet all summer and find a $50 bill in your pocket :D
