No way I'd even think about attempting that - the thought of the blade catching and being tossed from my hands, and possibly into me, screams no. While you may think there's a slim chance, even with light pressure the blade is being pulled into the belt. That belt is probably moving a solid 2500-3500 RPM.
Edge trailing with a belt sander, regardless the grit, in my honest opinion. Get a leather stropping belt and use that to take the burr off. If you can't find one, get an old leather belt and load it with compound, and do it manually. Doesn't take long at all.
