Newbie here.....Hello my name is Andrew and
I attended a Harley motorcycle show this weekend down in
Chillicothe, Ohio. I met a Greg Gillespie who was a dealer
there and he was selling and engraving his Belt buckle knifes.

I was hoping that some body here has had one for a while
I was looking for some input on how well the knife has held up over time
Is it well made, that sort of input

I thank everybody in advance

Andrew

My opinion is that belt buckle knives are a good way to end up in jail somewhere. They really have little value as a user, as most are dagger like blades and most jurisdictions will consider them concealed weapons. Again, just my opinion.

Generally useless , I hane seen a couple that had some small measure of utility .

I have a Gerber Touche' belt buckle knife and it was quite handy to have on me when I was fishing a lot. I used it quite often for cutting tangled line and other small jobs but otherwise I agree with the posts that it is a good way to end up arrested and in cuffs. My experiences with these type are limited to this one that I have. I've heard there are good ones and bad ones. I would have to say the Gerber is a good one. Its always been a smooth as silk mechanism and it has been in and out a lot so I think it was pretty well designed.

And I totally agree with this opinion.

My father used to carry a Bowen? belt buckle knife. It was very useful... I mean, he always had it on him and that is the best knife in the world (the one you happen to have when needed). Arrested? That knife is no worse than what half the people carry here.... I don't get it. Concealed? Is it illegal to conceal a knife? That's what I do everyday.... I definitively don't display my knives...

The ones made by Gillespie are folders that disengage from the belt buckle. It isn't one of the type that the knife is actually a working part of the buckle.

The knives are incredibly cheap, running from $25.00 to $35.00 engraved. I have a hard time believing they will be any good at that price.

you carry a weapon concealed and your nickname will shortly be fish. If you want go ahead and get one but i suggest you start learning to use cigarettes as money, and learn to barter

What is all this bovine crap about a knife being a concealed "weapon"?!?!?!? I cannot believe you guys......

A pocket knife in your pocket is not a concealed weapon.

A knife deliberately disguised as a belt buckle is what will make many LEO's see it as a concealed weapon.

I'd read the knife laws for your state before judging for yourself if its legal or not. In Oklahoma I see no mention of belt buckle knives in the law and I never had issues with it when I carried mine and in fact showed it to cops on several occasions but in other states like Ohio or Illinois it would get you arrested pretty quick I think.

My Gerber is a 2" blade with a single side edge. Being licensed to carry a handgun I can't believe there would be much merit to claiming I was carrying a 2" knife as a weapon concealed or otherwise and if a LEO tried to enforce it I'd fight it and we'd go before a judge because it would be pretty stupid on his part to pursue that arguement in my opinion when the obvious weapon on me was the gun but thats my take. His or a judges may differ. The way I looked at it why push it and I traveled too much to risk getting caught out of state with an iffy gray area knife.

If you do buy one get one and plan to carry it I'd suggest finding one with a single edge with a short blade. If you get a double edge one you are asking for trouble regardless of whether it be concealed or not.

Keith,

I saw this guy at Sturgis a few years back(2003).

The ENGRAVING costs that much, a plain knife is like $80.00 or $90.00.

It's like a Fury with some serrations, if memory serves, I think that its a lockback. Not Pakistani SHTIT but, not benchmade or other GOOD stuff either. A backup knife for whatever.

Good concept, looks like he has done his homework on legality, but I would say that it is not worth the risk.

I carry 5 knives every day, anyway, so a buckle knife is not really necessary in my case.

Best Regards,

IMO, they're right up there with belt buckle ninja stars. Only the really cool guys wear them.

At the Harley show, I asked him how much and he was selling them engraved there for $125.00:eek:
I only seen two that were not engraved, I did not ask the price of those
I asked him if he had a web site, and he told me the address followed by
you cna get them cheaper here at $125.00 because on the site they are
$225.00:eek:  he said that he did not pay much attention to the site
he had somebody else running it and the high cost of the knife was how
the guy running the site got paid.
Well when I checked his site I found the un-engraved ones going for
$70.00 and the engraved knifes were $110.00.
I asked him about conceled carry of that knife and he said
its not a belt buckle knife but a buckle holster that holds the knife
I have a $50.00 dollar gerber multi-tool that I use at work
every day and I get the most use from that, I think I will hold on to my $70.00 bucks.
Years ago I had one of those two edge dagger knife buckles
after awhile the leather started to rot and crack I never replaced the belt
which made the buckle/dagger useless.

If any body else has any input please chime in
and thanks to every one that gave me input

Andrew
