Anyone have any advice, plans, or ideas for building/buying a belt sander for grinding blades. I have been using a bench stone grinder for rough work and a small 1 inch wide belt sander for finish work but I want to move away from the stone grinder and rely more on belts. Thanks much

The EERF grinder is the one I plan to build. I have used the one it is based on and it worked very well. Keep in mind there are several parts you will need to buy. You need at least 3 wheels and a tool arm. You need a good 1-2hp motor (I think tefc is prefered). And you need a digital controller for the motor.

I'll likely build an EERF grinder at some point to add to my grinder stable. Another good option is the NWG (no-weld grinder) from Tracy at www.usaknifemaker.com. The plans make a solid grinder with minimal machining necessary.

My buddy Larry Hensley has a set of Tracys NWG plans. They are really complete. I personally would (will) weld it mostly instead of bolt it together. Someday Larry will come over and get started hopefully or else I'm going to use his wheels on something:D
