Belt Grinder for a beginner

+1 on the craftsman. you can see if you like building knives with it , and could get a leather belt and use it for sharpening if you outgrow it. pretty nice for the money..

I was wondering about the Craftsman 2x42. Would this grinder be good enough to learn how to grind on? I know it would not compare to the KMG, but would it be good enough learn grinding technique? Then later one could get a leather belt or just use it for handle work or other chores.

I'd recommend the 1x42. it's handy to have a 1 inch grinder around. Even after you get a 2x72
