Belt grinder performance questions

I read a post recently that talked about one belt grinder being better than another. I can't find that post now to reread it. The essence of the post was that the Bader BIII was an amatuer grinder compared to others.

I own a Bader and it is all I have ever used. What could I expect in improved performance with another machine? Without any comparison and the 3 or 4k to do a test I have what I have. What difference would I feel or realize with a different grinder.

Your help and experienced coments welcome.

That must have been said by an amateur. They are an excellent grinder.

the only complaint ive read about the bader multiple times is that the platen is not the greatest quality. are you having problems with flat grinds? is your machine variable speed? what h.p. and drive wheel size?

The B-III is a great machine, especially compared to the B-II. Like all grinders, it has some strengths and weaknesses. The stock platen is definitely a weak point.. The big drive wheel (assuming you've got that) and the gently crowned tracking wheel, and nice tall flat platen assembly are big pluses.

I prefer a machine with for modularity, but the b-III is a great 2x72 when properly configured if it matches your style and tooling.

I do have the B III with variable speed. I like it but that one responder to the post made it sound like an Eze bake oven quality. Thanks for confirming the quality. Those things stick in my head and create doubts.

Plain & simple, that guy is just Wrong!

Before upgrading from my Grizzly, I did a lot of research and reading about grinders. I finally called Don and he told me that he owned several brands and if he had to choose just one he would go with the Bader. On that recommendation I ordered one and don't have any regrets.

Said no talented knifemaker ever!

Baders are one of the best grinders available

Was the person that made that comment a grinder salesman? Maybe trying to do you a favor by taking your Bader in trade on his highly superior grinder?
