Has anyone ever heard of an amk 77 belt grinder ( it came up in my recommendations on amazon believe it or not) . Thinking about getting one just looking for opinions on it and experiences if anyone has used one. also looking at maybe a pheer grinder the amk doesn't have speed control but does have both a flat platen and a 10" contact wheel for a couple hundred less than the Pheer grinder.
thanks for the help

I have never used one but for what ever my advice is worth I highly recommend some type of speed control. A knife grinder is not like a bench grinder in that one speed is fine. Speed selection is very important depending on belt, grit and operation your performing. At a minimum you can get by with a step pully but a VFD is very nice to have.

I have an AMK 77 and it is a very good grinder. I got mine with variable speed and a 2HP Leeson motor, the vertical flip feature and a small wheel attachment. It is very solid and stable--some around here have questioned it's use of aluminum, and I can tell you that is not an issue--they are currently running a promo that gives you a 12" wheel included for free. It is a very nice feature that the contact wheel and flat platen are just a pin pull and a flip away to change from one to another. It is a hell of a value in the grinder market IMO, and does the job spinning a 2x72 belt well and nicely balanced.
