I use one of those crapsman almost 20 yeras ago and I suggest you work small. Say 3-5" Hunter, Caper, edc, type blades as you can grow old wait for the steel to hogg off. As mentioned its been a awhile but,
I think Scott at trugritwww.trugrit.com has some brand name belts for hogging off steel. Norton Blaze I think? You may have to call them cause Idon't think everything is on their site.
Anyway I do the first stage of knife bevel grinding on my 2 x 72" Machines with a 36 grit. I then go to a 60 grit and then to the finishing 120 grit and up.
See if you can get some 36ers, At least 60 grit for your bevel grinding after I have used about half the grit they start to build up heat to much so those belts go to profiling and other Grunt jobs. I grind my bevels after Heat Treatment. so heat is a concern.
So to sum things up, Your 80 grit is near a finishing grit.
