I asked once before but only two people gave me advice. It was helpful but I want more ideas. What kind of belts do you use throughout the making process. If you could state brand and grit that would be extremely helpful. Thanks to all

I hope this helps. True grit abrasives is a good place to start they ship fast. I get the 60 grit 3M Cubitron yf7's for establishing the grinds or removing scale. And I Absolutely love the gator structured belts for there even grind on the flats. These belts may cost more but well worth it. I am using 2x72" belts.

The best way to find the best belts for you is to try them.Buy 2-3 60 grit ceramics in different brands and see which you like best. Some like 3M,I like Norton Norzon. The way you grind and your grinder will determine the best belt for you.
A good start is some 60 grit, some 120 grit and some 400 grit.I go all the way to 15 micron.

What size grinder do you have? Not all belts are available for the different sizes of grinders. For example, I can't get some of the name brand belts for my 2x42 that are offered for the 2x72 grinders.

I go from 60, 120, 220 to 400 on some blades. On others, I may start at a 60 then to 120 then back down to a Trizact 300, then 100, 65 then 45 or a 30. On others, I may go from 60 to 120 then to 220 and finish up with Scotchbrite belts. Just depends on what type of finish I want on the knife.

Some brand of good ceramic belt is good. I haven't personally noticed much difference between the brands so far, although I slightly prefer the orange ones to the red ones (don't remember brands, sorry). Trizact belts are great for finishing; they're way faster at smoothing out your finish than SC belts are, IMO. And I love my cork polishing belts. Last forever, and work great.
