has anyone out there herd of such a thing as a belt sander atachment for a bench grinder, I saw a combo unit ou there by JET

Yea. I've seen them run for ~200-300$ for a kit. I would just go for a production one at the price or a weld kit for a 2x72.

By tech support, I don't think they mean anything and everything technical.
This one probably belongs in Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment.

But yes, there are such things as belt sander attachments for bench grinders.

Google up multitool grinder.

That's what most newbs use down here in Australia instead of the craftsman. They come in 2 sizes and run a 950mm x50mm or 1250mm x 50mm belt.

I ground my first 2 blades on one. From what I have seen it works just as well as craftsman and about as fast.

I started on the 2x36 Multitool attachment. It works good for small hollow grinds and handle contouring. I recently upgraded to a Bader III, but have yet to part with the multitool completely. It is nice to be able to run to the local hardware store and grab regular 4x36 belts and simply slice them in half. Let me know if you decide to go with one, I might part with mine.

I too started with the 2x36 multi tool attachment, I still use it for roughing g10 handles. Trick Tools, Van Sant enterprises.
