Can anybody reccomend me a good belt sander for less then 150$ that i could find locally at a lowes or sears or homedepot or similar with enough power for handle shaping and bevel grinding for a knife im making?

A lot of the guys here starting out use a 2 x 42 from sears in that price range, I started with a 4 x 36 from lowes, for the money the 2 x 42 is better, 4" wide belt is too much surface area and the belts are extremely expensive compared to the 2" belts.

From all the looking I have done I think the Sears Craftsman 2x42 is about the best option for under $150.

There is the Harbor freight 1x30 but it would eat belts and get hotter than you might want.

I have been reading that many people have made a lot of knives with both of these. The next step up in decent sanders is a lot more $
