What's the difference between the two? I have a 1" belt sander and was wondering if it could be used to make a stock removal blank. I've also got a 6" bench grinder/buffer if there's some way to adapt it, or just use the wheel and get a decent piece.

I've also got a 1/5hp motor from another 1" sander I stripped for parts, but I don't think 1/5hp is really enough to be useful.

My little shop is coming along nicely and a forge and oven is next on the list. Most importantly since it's way below freezing every night, the furnace has been ordered :D

A belt grinder is a belt sander used to grind metal instead of wood ;) "Usually" constructed sturdier. Look at the thread on grinders and you see the first one I posted? That's on a 6" grinder.
