Anyone knows where to purchase a knife sheath for the Manix? I don't care what material it is made of just as long I can horizontal carry it on my belt.

For a leather folder sheath, I highly recommend the work of Gary Graley.

His workmanship is excellent and he is a great person to deal with. A real artist with leather and a gentleman too.

Check out the Good, Bad and Ugly Forum here on BladeForums and you'll find lots of praise for Gary!

I second Gary Graley(ie)G2 makes a great horizontal or vertical sheath for folders.I'm hoping too get a couple more before the end of the year.

They look ok, but after reading Gary's website, I was a tad turned off by the "purposely loose" belt loop. IMHO, I'd rather have something snug, not something designed to be a tad floppy. Read the fine print, thats what he says (in so many words). If you're a tad on the heavy side, this might be a nice option though, so who knows, it may work well for some people (just not me)? I like my concealables nice and snugly (so as not to print through my shirt more than necessary).

I have heard the ebay seller, I referred to earlier, is a smaller operation and does nice custom work for the same price (for any other blade/knife). I don't think it's cheapo stuff. These knife holsters certainly look nice. I just never had a need for a knife holster for a knife that folds and clips inside your pocket so nicely (by design).

Gary can make it as snug as you like,all he needs is the width of belt.I have a few of G2's sheaths and none are loose on my belt.

didn`t you guys say the g10 on the manix wears out pockets , so then wouldn`t it wear out a leather knife sheath?

I've got a leather belt sheath for my Gunting made by Vess, highly recommended!! No sign of wearing out from the rough G10.

oh ok then . when i get my manix i`d like to get a leather sheath for it . just gotta sell that gerber , and then i can buy one

Mahalo guys for all your suggestions. I was looking for a sheath that was pretty much "off the rack" and the one that Trihonda mentioned from eBay fits the bill. It is a bit expensive *but* it allows me to still keep the pocket clip on the knife and it is pre-made to order. I will report back on how the fit and finish is when I get it hopefully next week.

BTW, this is the first lockback I've owned. It does take a bit in getting used to it in folding it back since I am more used to the linerlocks. No matter though I just need to adjust. Damn, this Manix is HUGE. The factory edge is very sharp. This is the first factory edge that I've come accross that is hair popping sharp. I also like the G-10 scales. It feels very good in my hand and it is very confortable and grippy. As I mentioned earlier, it is a large folder so the weight is hefty. That's why I wanted to get a sheath/holster to carry it on my belt.

That would be for the vertical sheaths, but, as mentioned in this thread, they
can be sewn to fit to a belt width which would make it quite snug on your belt
most people need a way to carry a knife that is convienent and are not
looking for a 'fast draw' type action, so something that is as trim as I can
make and retains the knife securely are the types of things I shoot for when
making my sheaths. But, they are not for everyone, like you say, a lot of
knives come with clips, by all means use that, I do, in my right front pocket I
carry a BM folder clipped there, while I carry a WH on my belt, just more
options.

That one you linked to the ebay site, Vess, does a very nice sheath,
I've always admired his workmanship, while the price is more than some
are willing to part with, keep in mind the sheath now becomes part of
the package, some people often like the sheaths as much or more than
the knife. It all comes down to how you want to carry the knife, for me
a sheath works well especially when sitting down, you don't have to dig
into your pockets to get it out.

for a Benchmade balisong knife, but is similar to how the horizontal sheaths
are created;

Front opening, you can see the top section, then the middle layer then
the belt loop and finally the folded down belt loop, so there are 4 layers
along the bottom hand sewn into place;

and glued down and stitched into place;

And, 4ster and 1gailt, thanks for the link and good words, appreciate them,
and mauiblue, I'm sure you will be very happy with Vess's work!

Gary, it looks like you do fine work. Kudos. Also, I noticed your site lists a butterfly emblem for embossing.. Too bad you don't have a spider emblem of some sort. I bet that would be a big hit. Also, what's your average Manix sheath going for? I'm not a sheath person (per se), but for the right price, I might be persuaded to get one for the field.. $50 aint the right price...

Mauiblue, I love the manix. For your first good knife, you can't go wrong. It's a tank, but able to tackle the tenderest of jobs. In fact, just a few hours ago at a party, I found myself in the bathroom discovering an ugly chunk of some food wedged in my teeth, where I was unable to reach it. With no tooth-pick in sight, I whipped out my Manix and it worked like a dental pick. Very precise! My smile (and the party) was saved!

Thanks Trihonda,
A spyder embossing would be cool, I really lucked out with the butterfly
one, as it closely resembles the BM's.

Sorry on the price, but mine would be a bit over that $50 mark...
hang onto that clip, it's the best price right now.

But I do encourage others to take up leather and thread and make their
own, some find that they have a real nack for doing leather work and
end up sticking with it.

I just received a great leather sheath from Vadim at Vess Collectibles for my BM 940. I had him make it with the clip removed. This is a great fit and finish and hasn't done anything to the anodized finish on the scales. Here's a few pics:

I really like the clip on the back of that sheath. I could thoeretically use it when I do plain clothes at work. I've been getting some pressure to promote to detective, but I love my current position VERY much. So, not sure when I'd need a sheath on a regular basis. The clip on the knife seems to suit me fine for off-duty carry. And my vest seems to work well for a Native while on duty. Can't see carrying a Manix on my Duty belt... I hardly have enough room for my gun, lol...

Well I got the Manix sheath in today. That was quick shipping coming from Canada to Hawaii. Last item I got from Canada took quite a while to get here. In any case, the sheath is spot on! Excellent craftsmanship and quality materials. I highly recommend it.

I was going to reccommend Dix leatherworks as I had a great experence with him on a sheath for a gerber multitool but......

After seeing those pics from Gary, I dont know, I think I might need him to make me one for my Manix.

That is some very impressive work.
