Do you folks prefer a sheath be made so that the handle of the knife sticks up above you belt and the sheath??

Hi L6...

Personally I like a high riding rig myself..

I know a lot of people have been asking for low riders though....

I guess it all depends on what kind of blade it is also...

A huge blade would be difficault to draw up high so I can see their point.

I prefer a horizontal or 45 degree angle on a sheath for fixed blades, and most of my users are in the <4” range. But it might be because of my lack of a washboard stomach

Blades under 5" high ride, full handle out.
IMHO the gerber Mk 1 sheath is IT. Especially the thumb-break retaining strap. Another winner is the horiz. kydex that came with my Livesay Marshall.
Over 5"... lower riding, Thumb-break.
Haven't tried a diagonal crossdraw, but would like too...

For smaller size blades(4" and smaller) I like a horizontal or slightly angled up sheath. My Simonich Hawkbill Cetan is angled up just a bit above horizontal and it fits just perfect on my left front side for an easy cross-draw. For larger blades though, I prefer a low vertical carry. Dangler type rigs are my favorite for this kind of carry, they move around and don't get hung up as easy as regular sheaths.

For general carry, I prefer a mid to high ride sheath for blades up to 4". On larger knives, a swing away sheath like those with the puukko allows the knife to lay aside when sitting. On big knives 8" blades and up I like a drop sheath with a swing away like the one that comes with the Western W49 Bowie.

Also, leather is the material of choice.

I like it for smaller knives. Anything in the six inch and under range. Range of shoulder motion while drawing is the limiting factor.

I prefer a sheath that positions the butt no higher than the top of the belt; ideally, level with the lower edge of the belt. Pouch style is best but some grips just don't accommodate that (i.e., Cold Steel's kraton. They give a great grip but are just too thick.) I can live with a little higher carry on a smaller blade, such as the excellent sheath that comes with Marble's Fieldcraft,

I agree 100%....
Especially when it comes to a defensive edged weapon...
Big choppers I like hanging low though..
I carry my Fallkniven A1 daily IWB and it rides high..
Any lower and I'll be digging in my pants for the handle...
