asked this b-4 but didn't get an answer so i probably wasn't clear what i was wanting to know. what grit belts do you guys reccommend that i keep on hand for my craftsman 2x42 belt sander?

thanks,guys!

I use the norton blaze 60 - 80 and 120, I know some guys use the 40 but too rough for me. The Craftsman may run a bit fast so I would not go finer than 220. I typicall buy 2x the 60 since they do most of the removal so 4-60 2-80 and 2-120

i use 40 grit for the majority of the metal removal, then step up to 80 to remove mill scaling. I have on hand, 2x40, 2x80, 2x150, 2x300. The higher grits I use on the handle wood, but I'm only on my first official knife, I've been goofing around with other stuff though.

I've run a craftsman for nearly 2 years now. I do my profiling and bevel grinding with 36 grit ceramics from supergrit. I do my handle shaping with whatever 100 or 120 grit I can get cheap. I do my bevel cleanup prior to heat treat with a 160 gator, and sometimes with a 400 gator. I do my post HT cleanup with the 400 gator, and also sharpen with the 400 gator. I also use the 400 and then a scotchbrite belt for a machine finish once in a while.

the ceramics from super grit are fantastic they hold out for a very long time, and cut fast and cool

Maybe it was just the batch that I got but I got some finer grit belts from TriGrit a while back. Anything above 120 seems to chatter quite a bit on me. I have some 400 that I can barely use because the seam has the knives jumping all over the place it seems. Anyone else experience this? I'm fine with basically anything up to 120 but after that she gets a little squirrely.

Yeah, the klingspor high grits that trugrit has are bumpy, like you said. The gators that they have in 160 and 400 are good though, and last forever.
