i would check the stickies at the top of the bladesmith question and answer section to see if there is anything. ceramic has a longer life than aluminum oxide for starters.
Industrial abrasives in PA has a good selection of belts and will do custom belts. You can find them on line or call width questions.
Klingspore abrasives has an excellent reference section on their website. Most belt manufacture have good descriptions of their different belt and abrasive materials on their websites.
Pay attention to the recommended belt speeds! Ceramic belts generally need to be run at high speeds to get the abrasive grit to chip off and leave sharp edges so it continues to cut. Your 4x36 might not have the speed.
