hi guys! i just purchased a kalamazoo 1 sm "1750 r.p.m." can you please tell me what type of grit i should purchase? I am planning on changing the edge profile on some of my swamp rat and other large knives to a convex edge" and if possible give me some insight as to how it should be done"
I am also interested in knowing as to what type of belt would be good if i wanted to resharpen the edges of my kitchen knives back to a razor edge. can you guys recommend a good book/video that entails sharpening for dummies using a sander. your input is much appreciated. thanks

I would use probably 400-600 to change edge geometry without going overboard , then a felt polishing belt to finish.....to resharpen dull knives, maybe a slightly lower grit, 200-320??? Just be very smooth as you move the knife along the slack belt close to the top wheel or the platen whichever is more comfortable....you want to have a slack belt but with tension, if that makes sense.
