Got my new issue of BLADE, and there's a really nice write-up about Ben's BDU in Kim Breed's knife testing article!

Super cool, CONGRATULATIONS Ben!!!  :D

A huge, full page photo of Ben's BDU is included, along with some really clear shots of it in action. Kim gave it a very high grade too!

Love seeing forum members in the mags!!! :D

Kudos Ben!!!! :) :) :)

Yup, read it last night as well. It was a great review. When the only real complaint is the shape of the pommel, I think you did good.

Congrats!!!

Nice!

I got to meet Ben at the OKCA show and was impressed with the work he's doing.

Congrats Ben!

It's awesome to see the guys here get recognition like you said Nick.

Thanks Nick, and thanks for the kind words guys!
I was pretty stoked when Kim contacted me about doing a review. I still can't believe it, I am a pretty small fish in a huge pond, I feel blessed to get this kind of exposure early on.

sweet! Well deserved Ben.

Thanks very much gentlemen!!

Very well deserved. I saw the issue about a week ago, and smiled when I saw one of your knives. You may feel like a small fish, but you have grown faster than many of us (must be the hgh). Anyways, I always get a kick out of finding a fellow BFer in blade.

I just read the review and I was quite impressed.

A lot of Kim Breed's reviews are different, in a similar way, to the way he wrote this one.
His enthusiasm for this knife really came through, and the fact that he sought Ben out probably played a role in the flavour of his writing.

Very often, I imagine, a published knife reviewer might be sent knives that he may not have an interest in, and still have to go through the paces.

In this case, he caught wind of Ben via the forums, liked what he saw and despite some of the criticisms he voiced in the article, got in touch with Ben anyway.

That's gold.

If your stuff is cool enough to attract the attention of someone who has to deal with a lot of stuff, most of which he finds out he doesn't like but can't be too harsh about it in his reviews, and he's stoked on it then you're doing pretty good. Presenting yourself and your work on the forums is very important. Some guys don't care to get published, but if you do, you have got to show some class in the forums. The forums is where it's at.

And thank goodness for guys like Spark. He and his kind are the rare few that provide this kind of opportunity for all of us.

Take Kim Breed's input to heart and focus on your strengths while acknowledging your weaknesses, and this will be a great door opener. Many makers don't get a chance to walk through it. Now, with that being said, it's still just one magazine article, in the grand scheme it doesn't mean much. It's all the new customers it will generate that matter- taking care of that is #1 imo.

Congrats, Ben!!
I'll check it out if I swing by the bookstore this weekend.

Thanks Matt, your knives were some of the first knives that really caught my eye when I signed up here. I think the key to growth is to always be pushing your skills and abilities, I learn something new with every knife I make.

Thanks for the input Lorien, I might send a knife your way for a BladeHobbit review someday!

Thanks Daizee, I appreciate it!

I don't know if I think of what I do as reviews, per se. I AM interested in working with people of like mind on things which we share a passion for. I like to see people who are genuine succeed. If I can be an asset for someone like this, I will gladly be an asset.

If you do send me a knife, make sure that I can throw it:).
Because I will.
