Bench Grinder Vibrations

Hello,

I recently purchased a new bench grinder (Porter Cable 8"), and there is quite a bit of vibrations coming from the unit when I use it. After much studying and research, I've determined that the wheels are unbalanced (basically cheap junk), and the flange washers aren't holding the wheel parallel with the shaft.

My question is as follows:

- Where can I find replacement bench grinder arbor washers, to replace the junk stamped ones that came with the unit?

I am unable to find anything after much googling, so I figured I'd query the bladeforums hive mind.

Have you dressed the wheel yet?

On a newly installed wheel, you will have to dress it so it's round.

That may still not fully cure your problem, but it's one place to start.

find someone with a lathe and have them make you some new washers.

Yes, I have dressed the wheel, and got it as good as it'll get. My guess is that there is varying density in the wheels themselves (chinese junk).

I will definately be buying good quality wheels for it. Who makes good ones?

Look in a wood turning catalog like "Craft Supplies". Wood turners use those grinders to sharpen their tools and their catalogs sell high quality wheels and also balancing kits for those wheels.
