Benchmade 1100 Pen Series

I saw one of those the other day, pretty neat. But seriously folks, if you find yourself defending you or your loved ones with a modified pen, I believe you are screwed.

I like the design except for the pen cap. Surefire has just released a new tactical pen and the design looks a little better and does not utilize a cap that can be lost.

Don't try bring any of these to Oz - disguised knives are illegal here. The Cold Steel Sharkie is OK though as it doesn't conceal anything sharp

It's a Pen that can double as a Kubaton is the basic Thought I believe. But a $80.00 a pop I was turned away. The very pointy looking tip that would be the bottom looks like it would end up putting holes in my shirts. Besides, The Uni-Ball pens I carry every day now could be drivin into soft tissue just as well, and I can get a 5 in a pack for about $4.00 and take em on a plane....

I just got a surefire pen, it was pretty pricy but its a solid pen for sure.
The only thing i dont like is when the pen is retracted there is a gap that makes the pen look unfinished.

I did think to my self a screw down cap would have been better. That way its in a "solid" piece untill you need to use it as a pen.

I have the Mil-tac pen as well and that has a screw down cap wich i think is a better design for a "weapon" pen if done well.

I do prefer the Surfire styling though.

I've been carrying mine for a few months now and like it quite a bit.

+ Nice solid design
+ Fisher refills
+ Good knurling
+ Cap snaps nicely onto both ends of the pen

- Anodizing isn't great
- Pocket clip end sticks out a bit much
- Not comfortable enough for prolonged writing

For my uses it fits the bill. If your in the market for a rugged and dependable pen and like the looks go for it.

It has a "cool factor", but think about situations in which you would actually carry or use it. Most of the time, I have my kubotan on my keychain, so I "need" a tactical pen only in high-security zones (airport etc).

And in such zones, the BM pen is far too showy. It´s too apparent that it´s a potential weapon.

I went with the Timberline Pen instead. It serves the same purpose and it´s low profile. In my job, I take down statements for the court from all sorts of people, ranging from harmless old ladies to murderers. So the TLC is much better. It doesn´t intimidate anyone and the criminals won´t identify it as a potential weapon and try to take it from me, yet if push comes to shove, I stand a better chance of disabling an attacker with it than with a standard-issue plastic pen.

Plus the Timberline is cheaper.

I like the idea but can't see spending more than $40 for a pen kubaton combo when I already carry a Fisher space pen to write with that is also pretty stout and a kubaton to carry my keys. Total price of both above=$20

as a pen , it feels mediocre when writing. The removable cap is a pain if you are using it to write with a lot. It's plenty thick to carry in a shirt pocket , too thick for my tastes.

As a kubaton , cant say , not a weapon I am interested in.

I prefer a Lamy Swift palladium.

Small nitpick:

The correct spelling is Kubotan, not Kubaton. It was "invented" by Takayuki Kubota, hence the name.

They'll attach "tactical" to anything. What's next? Tactial t-shirts or tactical laptops?

My personal favorite is the Cross Townsend Titanium rollerball I carry every day. The new ones have a herringbone pattern for a non-slip grip and can be had for under $100 online.

I don't own a Benchmade pen, but I can tell you something about it.

A: Fisher Space Refils

!!!

Fisher Space pen cartridges are some of the BEST ball points you can get. Smooth, reliable, writes on almost anything, extreme temperatures, all angles. Plus you could you just the pen tip as a puncture weapon/tool.

B: I think the main intent of this pen was to have a combination of a yrwa stick/cubaton and one hell of a pen.

so, there you have it. Reliable pen combined with an impact tool for hand to hand.
Simple as that.
