Benchmade 1100 Pen Series

Saw/handled one last weekend. It is a neat gadget, and the cool factor is pretty high, but for a practical standpoint, it's pretty pointless, pun intended. Of course this, in no way, keeps me from wanting one. I'll probably end up getting the blue one, as I need a blue-inked pen for signing documents in the lab, and it's nice to have a pen that will write on wet labels, and wall-mounted clip boards. Did I mention it's pretty cool?:D

They do look rather 'industrious' with a bolted on clip on the cap, and would probably not win any beauty contests. But, then again, what 'tactical' item ever did.:p

Zebra 701. I bought mine for 5.99 at the Office Depot in front of my house. I use it daily on duty. It writes great, it's comfortable in the hand, and it actually looks like a pen, not some super wizzbang tactical stabber. However, the tube is stainless steel and very beefy. I've not doubt that it would go right into a suspect if I was forced to put it there. Best of all, it takes the Zebra refills which are cheaper than Fisher inserts and readily availalbe at all the box stores (office max/depot, wal-mart, etc).

Here's a link to someone's blog review I just googled: http://berserkersgearpage.blogspot.com/2008/01/zebra-f-701-stainless-steel-pen.html

And if you're likely to actually use the thing 99.9% time as a pen, but you want it tough and looks great, I have the Mazzuoli Officina (End Mill Model). Italian made, everyone who sees it thinks its awesome - and far less "tactical" in the brushed finish.

They look a bit like a cigar with a nice heft. And no one will borrow it from you and forget to return it - just way too obvious :)
