Not too crazy about the black blade. Also wish they used M390 instead of D2. Other than that, I like the design a lot. I don't think i'll be buying one new but maybe if I can score one in a trade somewhere down the line, I'll try it out.
They are running about $120-$130 street from the prices I see when I have the dealers send me their "super secret price that they can't advertise or Benchmade will excommunicate them via email", price . . .
The holes look good but are an open wound to the knife guts and I prefer uncoated blades too but these days, some of the best knives don't give us any choice such as Strider, etc.
Here are pics from BladeHQ since they have their logo watermarked so it should be cool (I hope so, Cam!) You can click on these for a larger picture.
Here are the specs:
Specifications:
Overall Length: 8.70"
Blade Length: 3.82"
Blade Thickness: 0.160" - Pretty thick blade steel
Blade Material: D2 Steel
Weight: 7.70 oz. - kind of heavy though
I plan on getting a 275 when they come out. I like the sharpened prybar grind of the blade with the fuller and the overall design of the handle. The use of an Axis lock over a monolock is a huge plus as well IMO. I agree that M390 would be an even better production release, but Benchmade probably wants to keep the price down a bit on this version. Hopefully the M390 version is satin or stonewashed finished (if this model takes off). I saw on a well known vendor's site that they moved the 275's estimated ETA from 11/30/2011 to 1/31/2012.
Ewww i do not like that at all. The handles really turn me off. The blade is not that bad though. Give me the blade with a different handle and i would get one.
I'll probably go into bladehq and handle it before I decide for sure, but just going off of pictures i've put it on my list, I would prefer M390 and uncoated blade (maybe a sprint?) and maybe a little bit higher grind for better cutting ability, but as is, I still like it. I also like the 25% increased AXIS lock strength. I also like the price for it, handles don't bother me at all as far as design and the holes, its really up to how they feel in hand though.
I suppose you could always find a knife pimper to make new scales that don't have holes, though that only adds to the price and nets you a pair of useless factory scales. At least you get to have a personalized knife.
Also not a fan of D2 or coated blades, unless the knife is fairly unique (i.e. the DPX HEST/F).
