Benchmade 300-1301 New limited edition 300 Flipper

I might have to look into this one. I prefer black G-10 but the green/black looks pretty nice.

Got mine today, here's some Q&D pics.

It's not really any thinner than the standard 300SN; the main difference being that the grooves in the G-10 run all the way across the middle of the scales. On the standard model, the grooves stop at the middle leaving a sort of blocky flat spot. So this one feels a little slimmer due to the full length grooves, but really isn't if you hold them side by side.

Other than that, I like it. The D2 is shaving sharp, and I think I like the green/black G-10 better than the tan. The black hardware looks good, too. The action on this one is a little sticky compared to my tan one out of the box; I suspect it will break in eventually.

My wife gave me a 300SN last Tuesday as part of my 65th b'day shocker (The other part was a ZT-0777 which she had on layaway locally!). No more of this knife buying for me - we just bought a new house and are still moving in - first move in 36 years. Sadly, my old home was worth but a down payment on another home. This may add to my frugal nature, which would have made me a non-player in the LE 0300, anyway. Add to that my preference of 154CM to more easily rusted D2, and I'd likely stay with my production 0300. There is the mystique of the LE, of course... and it is a handsome knife. Congratulations to those who get them.

I was JUST about to say these are in stock at Blade HQ, but they're gone already. Good thing I got my order in. :D

They sold out before I could handle one. I can't say I care because my regular 300SN my favorite BM by far. Once you lube it and break it in, it is glassy smooth! The blade geometry works fine for most tasks too. I know it's heavy and thick, but I just done care beccause I love it so much.

I should be getting mine on Monday. The handle looks custom great! The blade looks more like stonewashed than satin to me but it could be the pictures. The flipper action on my regular 300SSN is not the best so I'm hoping for an improvement on this one.

How much have you worked the flipper on your original 300SN? In my experience, it took a while to break in, but now that it is broken in, it flips as easily as Zero Tolerance Framelock like my 0561.

I did some when I first got it and will give it another try when the 300-1301 comes in. I have the ZT 0561 and it too has a weak detent. Flippers that I really like are the ZT 0801 and Spyderco Southard. Smooth and reliable no matter which angle the blade is pointing. With weak detent if the blade is pointing to the sky it won't deploy reliably all the way without wrist assist.

Speaking of limited editions, did anyone else see the 746-1301 Mini Onslaught?

I wish Benchmade would stop doing their limited editions in D2. I have had a special weakness for that steel. That is the only thing I like about 300-1301 better than the standard 300 (neither of which I own).

My 300-1301 came in tonight and it's beautiful. The scales not only look great but give you a better grip. Kind of like polished G10 with a good balance of texture and smoothness. The blade has a different hue as well.

The flipper action is a little better than my 300SSN. Both flip reliably when in closed position the blade is positioned down or horizontal. Once you start pointing the blade towards the sky past the horizontal it becomes iffy. This is very reminiscent of my Zero Tolerance 0561 family with weak detents.

I see the dealer that uses the nutnfancy code has these in stock today. The same dealer that had the exclusive Orange Spyderco pm2.Go get em while you can!!!!!!!

My local gun shop had one in stock and was asking $149 so I had him hold it back. I picked it up today (#335/350) and I do like it a lot. The black/green g10 does look better, though I do like the tan also. It still doesn't flip like I prefer but that doesn't really bother me as I have other knives that can scratch that itch. I will withhold overall judgement until I carry it for a few weeks.
