I have two of these 425bk Snody collaborations from benchmade. Love these knives and they are quite hard to find, but I'm trimming my collection pretty thin since there's a baby on the way. Probably only this and maybe one other knife to sell before I'm down to gifted knives only! :barf::barf::barf:
This is a discontinued model from around 2005. I received it in used but good condition having just returned from benchmade for lifesharp and servicing. Because it was functionally flawless but had some scratches in the black coating, I decided to stonewash it to even out the finish. I also removed the thumb stud and pivot hardware and separately stone washed them to a similar finish. I then tuned up the detent and lock bar pressure, cleaned and lubed everything and reassembled. This knife now has a good solid detent, which this particular model often lacks based on my research. My other NIB 425bk has a very weak detent so I'm appreciating the feel of this one greatly. The action is very very smooth and can often close via gravity when the lock is disengaged. There is little to no blade play in any direction, and the blade is within 1mm of perfectly centered at the tip. Lockup is solid, clicky, and before center.
I then put the blade in my Wicked Edge sharpener and gave it an aggressive 16* per side edge, ran out to 600 on the diamonds and then stropped to a semi-mirror finish. It whittles small pieces of newspaper, and is simply very sharp.
The overall condition of the knife is good, with any uneven-ness in the blades stonewash-over-black coating being the only noticeable flaw. At the tip of the edge the stones left a more washed finish, as seen in pictures. The g10 and silver twill have no major blemishes and the pocket clip has only faint scratches if any. There are two small areas of black coating left on the lock side edge of the blade which I might remove for uniformity.
This will ship in a black generic Benchmade box without papers etc. If you are interested in the knife but would like a more/less aggressive wicked edge or any other provision just let me know. Thanks for looking.
