Hi all,

I just received a 490 Amicus and I love the knife but hate the slippery handle. My first thought is to send the knife off to someone to modify the scales to add some texture, so I'm hoping someone here has some suggestions on who to send the knife to and what modifications would add some texture/grip to the handle. My first thought is a bead blast and re-anodize. Any other thoughts?

Does anyone know if there are custom scales available for this knife yet?

Thanks in advance.

If you go to the main forum page you'll notice a thread based on tinkering and embellishments which is agree at placed to start......otherwise head to a manufactures forum and skim the pages...i.e. Benchmade,Emerson etc...your bound to see something and someone's work that impresses....

I've been looking for the same thing as the OP. I love my 490, and the handle profile is excellent. It is just a bit too smooth though, and I would prefer a color other than black.

It doesn't look like these would be separate scales as the handles seem to be integrated with the internals, requiring the entire knife to be reassembled to replace them. It's unfortunate, but hopefully someone out there will come up with something.

A coat of clear rubber/silicon resin can be sprayed onto the handles for added grip.

Can be applied entirely on the scale or even in patterns and portions for more or less grip.

It can also be removed if it doesn't suit the mood.

Just putting it out there.

You could also try some Talon Gun Tape and modify it to fit the 490. Would be a cheap and easily removable option that wouldn't damage the finish
