The Model 5000 features the Benchmade patented Auto AXIS Lock, and it also incorporates a coil spring that is activated when the locking bar is pulled back. This redundancy creates the first automatic knife that will still lock open and closed even if the coil spring should ever fail.
Of possible more importance is the fact that it is the worlds first truly ambidextrous automatic knife. The lock can be actuated equally with either hand and the blade can be closed easily as well. The officer that needs a weak-side carry for a knife now can take full advantage of an auto.
For the ultimate tactical tool, we have anodized the aluminum handles black and black oxided the stainless liners, screws and hardware for a total non-glare package.
Aluminum scales are machined in a two directional grip so that the knife is easily put into the pocket and stays in position during activities due to the directional relief's cut into the scales. This holds true while pulling or thrusting the blade as well.
All Benchmade autos come with a safety, including the Model 5000. The sliding safety simply moves behind the locking bar, preventing the bar from moving back and releasing the blade. It can also be moved into place after the knife is opened to create a knife that will not fold up, even in the most extreme situations.
The clip is reversible for left of right side carry and the front of the liners are treaded for added grip in a less than desirable environment.
