benchmade 551 , 556 , or spyderco Delica?

I prefer the axis lock for ease of opening and closing on the benchmade. Either of these knives are going to suit you well. I think it should come down to how the knife feels in your hand. If you have the opportunity to hold each of them do it!

To me the Delica feels a little more delicate (pun intended) due to its thinner size, full flat ground blade and pointy tip. But all those make it a superior slicer. Benchmade feels a little more robust and can handle harder use.

I would grab the Benchmade if I was going camping. I would grab the delica if I was just hanging out at home or doing errands around town.

The Mini-Grip and Delica are both great EDC knives. I like the full-size Grip as well, but it is a bit bulkier in pocket. The Mini-Grip (Ritter version specifically) and Delica are both EDC favorites of mine and probably see about equal use.

If you want a larger knife, the full-size Griptilian may serve you better. If you like smaller and more compact, both the Mini-Grip and Delica are great choices. The Mini-Grip does have a smaller footprint in pocket, but the Delica does have a larger handle for better grip and ergos. If you do a lot of cutting or heavier use, the larger handle on the full-size Grip may be better suited for your tasks.

Well I'm a Spyderco guy myself, I just got my hands on the 556 just yesterday came in the mail.i was fell immediately in love.so in love,I went out and bought (full price)the full size Grip with sheep foot blade shape and yes with the Spydie hole.even though I'm still a Spyderco kind of guy I think everyone should own a grip.i would say get both your curiosity will never leave you alone about that one trust me.lol good luck!

Just plan to get both a Benchmade and a Spyderco. You will find a need for each, if you buy them. They are both good knives but very, very different.

Also, there are much better Griptilians than the 551. I would recommend the one with a sheep's foot blade (I think it is a 550 or 555) over all other Griptilians except one. The Ritter Grip. I would have to say that,IMHO, it is the best Griptilian out there. The Ritter blade makes a better knife for slicing. Oh, before I forget, I have the 551 but I work in a medical office and the knife does not work well with dress clothes.

I have never owned a Delica. Just does not do anything for me. For just a few dollars more you could have a Manix 2. For a little less you get a Cat, Tenacious, etc.

I'm a lefty so for me Benchmade's AXIS-Lock is worth the premium. I also like how it's a true one-handed open and close function.

The Benchmade is typically a little better made also, at least in my experience. But it has to be I guess, with a more complicated lock.

I do wish they made it with a thinner blade stock though (and yes, I know I can get a Ritter, but I don't like the leaf-shaped blade or Benchmade's M390) because at the end of the day, what makes the Delica the better performing cutter is the thin blade steel. Along with the ergonomics.

So Benchmade, I like the lock and the blade steel. Ideally I'd have one in S30V, and may do a custom order that way one day.

Spyderco, the thin blade stock and ergonomics win.

So if you don't have to have the AXIS-Lock, I'd say go with the Delica. Just don't plan to use it to pry or any non-knife duties. The thin VG-10 won't like that at all.
