@Hackenslash and ChazzyP ChazzyP , both excellent posts with great insight and opinions.
I , too , favor larger folders generally (S90V Military, Manix2 , etc) but recently I've been hankering for a smaller , front pocket carry knife. Since I remove clips from all my knives , I'm careful about which knives I can comfortably carry in my front pocket.

I don't mind the saber grind on the Native one bit. And it's been a while since I've had and used a lock back. The composite blade concept is awesome to me. Definitely unique.

I was going to pull the trigger this morning but I may see where this thread goes before I choose.

I'd vote for the Benchmade all the way except for the price. That's a steep price for a slab of titanium. It looks great, absolutely incredible, but for $300? I'd rather create my own from aftermarket scales or the custom shop.

Interesting. Other people feel that it's a steal at $300 as opposed to it's regular price of $425. I still think 3 bills is a little steep for what you get.

I've got lots of knives way over that price-point now, but 3 bills is still kind of a benchmark or threshold for me when considering a purchase. Under 2 bills, I'll hardly think twice about trying something out, particularly if it's fairly popular and I figure I can re-sell at not-too-great a loss.

Back in the day, I just couldn't see myself crossing the 300th parallel, even though I was real curious about CRKs. When I realized I'd done that putting the Wilkins Grips on a large Ritter, I figured what the hell and sprung for a small inlaid 21 CRK on the Exchange. The damn kinda burst after that, but 300 bucks is still one of those things that makes me say hmmm.

Yeah , it all depends on the knife. For me , $300 is perfectly acceptable if I like the knife. But ya gotta figure , even the KW exclusive Military (S90V/CF/Ti) was just $280 when it debuted. And that was a much bigger and arguably nicer knife.

I'm with ya there. I've got no problem with $300 and up, as a quick tour of my knife drawers will amply demonstrate. I think, though, that 3 bills just makes me stop and think more than if I was gonna spend, say, $169 like I just did for my 551-1702 the other day. BTW, I'm likin' that one a whole bunch--lotta bang for the buck.

Between these two, I'd go for the grip without a second thought - I dislike Spyderco's peel ply carbon fiber that much. That said, I did look it up before responding; and I genuinely liked the look of it.

I just ordered the Native. Two , actually. I have this habit of ordering back-ups. A form of OCD I'm sure :)

The Grip looks nice. No question. I just feel that the Native with it's sweet CF , composite blade and lock back w/ stainless back spacer looks nicer. And from my experience , Spyderco has a significantly better track record in the fit and finish department than BM. Not to mention that it's also a better deal at $83 less expensive.

Some really good posts in this thread. Made me think before I bought.

Congrats on your purchase(s), Wolverine666 Wolverine666 ! Do come back here after you get them with some thoughts on and pics of your new knives.

Both flawed knives in some ways, but I voted for the Spydie. The BM is overpriced IMO and between the already-utilitarian handle design combined with machined Ti and inserts it just looks kinda ugly. I'd rather have the plain 556-1 with G10 and 20CV (and in fact I do!) or the fluted Ti Native 5

What puts me off about the Fluted CF version is that it's linerless. I like liners.
Well, you're a crazy person. So you should spend all $300 on spoons to tunnel through a mountain after the moth people from Neptune invade.

I'd go with the BM simply because I'm not big on carbon fiber.

Spoons , mountains and moth people from Neptune yet you say I’m the crazy one? Crazy people don’t know they’re crazy. And yes , I mean you. Check yourself , friendo.

The only thing flawed here is posting once a year o_O

I'm already on the other side of the mountain. Got here while the prime real estate was still available.
