Benchmade 585 mini barrage wiggle....

I recently purchased a Benchmade 585 mini barrage, and love it. One day when playing with it, I noticed it had some very slight vertical(not between the liners) play when the knife was opened manually(slowly and with two hands) that bothered me. I haven't had any play when the blade is opened with the assist mechanism. It seems as though when the assist mechanism opens the knife it pushes the lock bar a tad further along the back of the blade(or at least that's my guess). I can fix the play when I open the knife manually by pushing the lock-bar against the blade, and it goes away. Does anyone else have this issue or can anyone give me advice on what to do? The play is very minimal, and I really don't want to send it back to benchmade.

Check to see if there is an access of oil on the tang of the knife, where the axis lock rests. I know alot of times if my Benchmades have a bit of up and down it is because of that. Also I have had framelock that would show some up and down play when I opened them incredibly slowly and eased the frame over. It would go away when opened normally. So it could also be the axis lock not engaging very hard and when you wiggle it, it shifts a little from light lockup. Just my guesses.

If the play does not affect the security and integrity of the lock, it's nit picking really. It's a relatively inexpensive production knife, the tolerances are good, but it's not an issue that would require warranty intervention or anything else. There are a lot of knives that have the same characteristics that you describe, even some mid tech (higher end production knives).
