Benchmade 707SBK question

Hello,

I saw a friend's 707SBK and really liked the all black look. So I ordered one off Amazon for myself. However, while my blade is black like it is supposed to be, the liner is not black. Why does my friend's 707SBK have a black liner but mine does not?

All product photography I see for this knife online also shows a black liner.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Perhaps, his is a "first production" version and yours is not? Or the opposite?

There are definitely distinctions between some first production models and subsequent versions. Look to see if it states "First Production" on either of your blades.

If it doesn't, then make sure the seller is an authorized Benchmade dealer and see how the seller is rated and reviewed, to ensure its not one of the many counterfeits floating around Amazon.

Regarding Amazon, I purchased approximately 10 knives from various authorized dealers via Amazon, over the last few years. Only one (1) arrived with a centered blade. The rest of them were criminally off center. Some were returned by me, while others I decided to keep and center the blade myself, as the ones I decided to keep and fix, were in all other regards, perfect.

Thanks for the responses. I did a little more homework and spoke to Benchmark. The dealer is an official authorized reseller. Benchmark says my knife is a production error. So now I have to send it to Benchmark, or return it for a refund, or just live with it.

It's "Benchmade", not "Benchmark".

If Benchmade says your knife is a production error, you've probably got a one-off that's worth considerably more than the regular model. Returning it is your call but, damn, that's just not the thing to do with something rare and exclusive.

A production BM where they screwed up and forgot to do something is not going to be worth any more than usual, especially when you can frankenstein the same thing with a satin 707.

It's your preference, but I don't believe that it would be worth anything extra... albeit a production error, the knife comes in different configurations and has both types of liners so they could easily be swapped and whatnot..

If you want black, send it in, honestly, I prefer when the axis bar and liner match the blade..

Benchmade has great customer service, so expect to be impressed!!

LMAO...I did type Benchmark didn't I. I know it is Benchmade but I have to do benchmark tests for work and I suppose my fingers typed that out of habit. Doh!

I am actually a little irritated Benchmade wouldn't just send me the black liner so I could swap it out myself. Would save shipping and wouldn't leave me without a knife. I may just keep it, but I may also just send it back to the vendor and order a new one. That would be much faster than sending it in to Benchmade. Their customer support is probably great, but not sure how the person assembling the knife didn't catch the error...not really great quality control.

People probably thought the same thing about that postage stamp with the airplane printed upside down on it.
