Was just browsing around some of the online knife shops and found the 710 m390 satin PE that apparently isn't a limited production anymore. Anyone else hear about this? I don't own a 710 yet, so i might just have to get one of these!

Yep, I noticed that on the Knifeworks website a few days ago -- looks like the original limited run was successful enough that they decided to have Benchmade make it a perpetual (non-limited) exclusive for them. I'm not a big 710 fan -- I don't like the recurve -- but I do really like the precedent this sets as far as retailers bringing back very successful/popular limited editions as non-limited dealer exclusives. (M4 Millie, anyone? :p)

if thats true, I'm going to be one happy son of a bitch.

I'm in too. This was a good move on their part, pairing one of their best, most proven models with their best steel for a very fair price. I'd love to see M390 make it's way into the Griptilian line as well.

Already happened, to the mini grip anyway.

I missed that. Hoping for the regular Grip. My stepdad is a firefighter/EMT & carries the old 440C Grip I bought him when it first came out. He's not a knife guy but he gushes about that thing & is proud as hell of it. It's seen tons of use & is tight & smooth as the day he got it. He bought a new Grip for his son last Christmas & I got to handle both to compare. An M390 version would save me a lot of sharpening.

I bet. I've got one pre-ordered from KW. I'll test-drive it out for a few years first...ya' know...make sure it's right for him & all.

You need to get him an AFCK in M390. ;)
He'd love that thing to pieces.
That actually seems like a nice upgrade from the 710 version. Smooth G10, spyderhole, what more could you want aside from blue anodized titanium liners?

A guilt-free non-sprint run edition for edc. Not that my new 806 won't be carried & used, but I'll still know it's wrong somehow. The new 710 is dressed for work. This is a real sweet move by Benchmade. An analogous version of the 806 would be a winner. I hope they're testing the market with this sprint run 806 & bring it back.

Thanks for the heads up. That is excellent news. I love my edc D2 710, but balked at the price and limited (or no) use the sprint run model would have gotten from me. M390 710 will be a sure buy for me.

That's great, M390, cheaper than the limited, and no writing on the blade!

I think Benchmade might learn like Spyderco did, that bringing back the exact knife that was a previous Sprint run and people paid a premium for has the potential of pissing off a lot of people. Guess there is no reason to keep mine now that it isn't 'rare' since I don't really like the 710 even though I'm a huge fan of the AXIS lock.

Actually, if I am interpreting things correctly, this has come back not as a Benchmade regular production catalog item but an unlimited dealer "special." If that's true, your point might be even more true, however? Dunno. The price on this one is about $50 less than the prior limited edition.

I would venture to guess it's more the doing of the store that ordered those knives, than Benchmade themselves.

The AFCK and TSEK are some of my favorite Benchmade knives. The G10 has a littel texture to it, makes it somewhat unique.

It does suck for those of us that paid the almost $200 for the initial 710...

Especially since, in real life as opposed to fantasy, knives with billboards are often LESS valuable than knives without! :D I am speaking as the owner of two of those M390s, by the way.

I will now go and baton my LE 710 through a nice Mesquite stump I have out back... :(

KW describes the new M390 BM710 as "Plain edge/satin finish coating, highly compressed epoxy and woven glass composite handle." Is this the same as the production and sprint run G-10 handles?

highly compressed epoxy and woven glass composite handle = G10
Edit: I've always wondered about the material on the 710 come to think of it. I had one from about 4 years ago and the handle material felt like some FRN type stuff and not traditional G10.
