Benchmade 710 or 581? Which Would You Choose and Why for EDC?

good thing with the 581 if you are not into the AO you are able to remove the spring and safety and it function the same as any other axis lock

710 is my favorite Benchmade for edc.
Longer blade and easier to carry due to less bulk.

I say 710 also. I have a 710 in M390, I called Benchmade and had them send me two silver split arrow clips for it so I can have one on each side.

It looks great, and as some have mentioned you can actually put your hand in your jeans pocket that the knife is in and you don't run into it. It's very pocket-friendly.

I think the 710 is Benchmade's flagship knife, and I have more BMs than any other maker.

Plus, the blade style reminds me of the Corcorde jet from a 3/4 front angle. Nice!

I have both . My 581 has never locked up tightly despite 3 returns to Benchmade to correct this. I also found that the knife is awkward to close with one hand with the AO. I bought it for the blade steel and the blade is excellent. But I don t carry the knife. The 710 carries much smaller than it is , and the blade with a slight recurve is an excellent cutter and no problem to sharpen. If you can get a 710 in m390, do it.

710, hands down. Slimmer, classic lines and great ergonomics. And it's not spring-assisted.

What's up with all the necroposting the last few days?[/Qi

I never look at the dates on the forum threads when I post. I just choose topics of interest. I must admit I did wonder how a 710 with m390 steel was available. I just became familiar with the term necroposting a few minutes ago. Hang around long enough and you learn all kinds of things.

Go 710! I have the 580 and LOVE it, but have handled the 710 and would much rather have that. The assisted open is VERY addicting, however, closing this knife takes some force which can be pretty dangerous with one hand. Plus, as others have said, EDC pocket carry is pretty cumbersome w/ the 581. I actually carry mine on the outside of my pocket
