Benchmade 710

The D2 is not super easy to sharpen, IMO. I think if you can get ahold of one of the CPM M4 models you will really have something special. I really wish they would make the 710 in S30V that would make me very happy.

The M2 and M4 versions are definitely special, but don't underestimate the 154CM and [I think it was] AUS-8 blades.

Thanks for all the comments. I have ordered a Benchmade 710 in D2 tool steel. I will give a report once I have it in hand.

The only negative I have found with the 710 is the same as all recurves, can't sharpen them on normal flat benchstones so you might have to retool if you do not already have the equipment to sharpen recurves. Other then this it's a great knife!

You can sharpen the 710's recurve on a normal benchstone by using the "rolling x" stroke which allows you to control which portions of the edge do more grinding against the stone. An alternative is to use the sandpaper/mousepad technique, just roll it up and sharpen.

I should have my 710 by the end of the week, they say wenesday or thursday, but I always give a couple of extra days.

710 is great to carry, superb steel, wonderful Axis lock... but the recurve is a b*tch to sharpen, and the handle bites your hand in extended use.

I want to get another 710! I should have keep the one I had. When will a man learn?

This thread is from March, thanks a lot.

ATS-34 and then 154CM I believe. No AUS-8.

Are you sure it was offered in both steels? I thought the only difference between 154CM and ATS34 was the country of origin.
