Wow...looks like they were listening to everyone complain about the tip down only position of the 761, this 765 is tapped for tipdown AND tipup carry. It has a M390 blade steel with a happy medium length of 3.25" and comes it at only 3.16 oz. I personally have not bought a Benchmade in a while but this is definitely on the "need" list. Well done Benchmade!

After seeing all the new variants in the 2016 lineup, this knife looks the best IMO.. I’m happy BM tapped it for both tip up/down, hopefully people will complain less now :D

I’m picking one up for sure, the 761 has become one of my favorite BM’s, I’ll be happy to have a mini variant as well.

If they change the 761 to also be tapped for tip-up, it might be the first Benchmade I buy in years.

I'm going to keep my 765 tip-down.. I'm used to it already from the 761 and there will be less clutter around the lanyard hole area that way.. Looks better IMO

Weren't most of the complaints about the 761 due to its lockup and detent?

BKC fixed the detent issue a long time ago on the 761. For the sake of redundancy, I encourage you to read through the more recent posts of the 761 thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1237522-Benchmade-761-TITANIUM-FRAMELOCK/page3

In reality, there was practically only one vid on youtube that gave the 761 a bad rap.. All the sheeple followed without actually trying one out for themselves - As is the case, usually.. Most of the complaints among formites were in regard to the clip positioning and right hand only carry..

The 765 has both tip up/down clip positioning and apparently, an even stronger detent - even over the repaired detent on the 761. I spoke to a BM rep about that recently:

I certainly hope they like it. We heard a lot of people clamoring for tip up, but we needed to work through some mechanism development to ensure better detent before we could offer that. We've done a bunch of work on that geometry and I feel we've really got a good feeling detent on this bad boy. It'll keep the knife shut in your pocket.

The nice thing about tip down, is you can keep the detent light which makes it really easy to open. The 765 takes a bit more of a "flick" we'll call it. But the function is just as buttery smooth as the 761.

Im new here but I still cant believe how much praise this PoS knife (761) is getting. Sure the detent is not the problem anymore. What is the problem is the ridiculously weak stop pin. At first, out of box was smooth as silk and i loved it. After about a day of flicking it cause it to have massive up and down blade play with no side to side (the lock pin appears to be dented now). Its clear the lock bar is resting on the raised shoulder of the titanium and not the lock face. I attempt to spin the lock pin to a new face and i succeed and now the blade has no play but the lock is crazy sticky (lock bar interface is not hardened). Also the QC was pretty terrible since the knife came with deep marring on the spine of the blade and the lanyard hole was drilled at a angle that was not 90 degrees. Making the shiny part twice as thick on one side of the hole than the other side. After telling BM my story and sent pics of the blemishes, I sent the knife in for repairs. I get it back a week later. It had solid lockup and smooth unlocking again, until i flicked it open about 6 or 7 times then the blade play was exactly as before. Again I attempted to spin the lock pin to a new face with easy success. Guess what, the knife is ridiculously difficult to unlock once again. I must say it is blatantly obvious that this knife is a money grab riding the titanium folder train. I mean why else would that shoulder on the lock bar be there other than to patch their obvious stop pin issue. the 761 is a total rip off in my opinion. I really wanted to love this knife. I hope the 765 is a more thought out knife.

Your entire post has zero credibility, no proof/evidence, and comes across as a bad attempt at trolling this thread.. Did you register here at BF just for that?

I managed to handle it's big brother at a gun range near me. It's quite comfortable and would think the same for this one. Great steel and that illusive size in between a large and small seb might make this one a real winner!

If crk made a 21 or 25 in 3.25 this knife would have no shot, but they don't! I can see alot of folks digging it!

here are the blemish pics...

I can upload a scan of the repair receipt if want (they basically replaced everything except the clip which is not the same shade as the scales now). Sorry you think i'm a troll. All I can say is I absolutely love knives. I own knives like Spyderco PM2 and Manix2 and a BM volli (also not happy with the high amount of blade play, even after i had it sent in to fix the blade play). And ofcourse I have a Sebenza 21 that i edc. My point is the 761, with all its awesome materials, is not worth the money if you intend to use it.

For future reference, it saves a lot of time by just adding the pics to your first post lol

It's obvious yours had some F&F issues.. I would of exchanged it based on that alone.

I've handled a few already and none had the issues you described.

I think I've flicked mine open over 200 times already and I have zero play, lock-up is perfect.. The F&F is excellent, the blade is centered, and the detent serves it's function..

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I wouldn't let that reflect on the entirety of the product line..

To be honest, I absolutely love my Volli even with its blade play. But it wasn't a $331.51 dollar knife. Im not knocking Benchmade. Their costumer service is next to none. I just cant believe that no one else has or will experience the same issues as me. Unless they either hardened it or starting using different material, the stop pin is very soft and the m390 blade seems to have no problem digging into the stop pin.

Maybe my experience is one of a kind and no one will ever see the same failure as me. If thats true then the 761 is an amazing knife. I just cant help but realize the obvious patches for these issues (the rotating hex stop pin, the raised shoulder on the lock bar that prevents over extending of the lock bar in the scenario where the blade digs into the stop pin).

Maybe Ill send it back in for a second time. I was just so let down by the exact same issues reoccurring. I would love to edc this knife if it worked correctly. It is beautiful with a m390 blade (that blade steal was the main selling point for me). Hopefully my faith in the 761 will be restored.
