Benchmade 765 (smaller brother of 761)

Im new here but I still cant believe how much praise this PoS knife (761) is getting. Sure the detent is not the problem anymore. What is the problem is the ridiculously weak stop pin. At first, out of box was smooth as silk and i loved it. After about a day of flicking it cause it to have massive up and down blade play with no side to side (the lock pin appears to be dented now). Its clear the lock bar is resting on the raised shoulder of the titanium and not the lock face. I attempt to spin the lock pin to a new face and i succeed and now the blade has no play but the lock is crazy sticky (lock bar interface is not hardened). Also the QC was pretty terrible since the knife came with deep marring on the spine of the blade and the lanyard hole was drilled at a angle that was not 90 degrees. Making the shiny part twice as thick on one side of the hole than the other side. After telling BM my story and sent pics of the blemishes, I sent the knife in for repairs. I get it back a week later. It had solid lockup and smooth unlocking again, until i flicked it open about 6 or 7 times then the blade play was exactly as before. Again I attempted to spin the lock pin to a new face with easy success. Guess what, the knife is ridiculously difficult to unlock once again. I must say it is blatantly obvious that this knife is a money grab riding the titanium folder train. I mean why else would that shoulder on the lock bar be there other than to patch their obvious stop pin issue. the 761 is a total rip off in my opinion. I really wanted to love this knife. I hope the 765 is a more thought out knife.

This is what we call unsubstantiated hear say, also known as exaggeration with no proof at all in any way.

Awesome!

Did you pre-order the 765 or purchase the 761?

765. I carry small and large Sebenzas, there are times when my small is just too small and the large is just too large, this seems to be the perfect everyday knife. Plus...Benchmade's customer support and life sharp...too good to pass up.

I’m excited for you, be sure to post some pics when it arrives!

Looks pretty nice, now if the only add the tip up/down option to the 761 I might have to buy one and add BM's dual studs to it. $300+ is pretty steep for the little one. I'm surprised they didn't got for 3" just to have a larger contrast to the 761 and cover those that have to carry 3" or less.

I have a 761 and love it, can't wait for the 765 to drop. Hopefully they are still targeting April for release. In all honesty I clicked on this thread hoping to see that the 765 had dropped.

They are finally starting to drop. I see at least one online retailer has the 765 plain edge available for sale now!! Trying to decide if I can live with the first production writing on the blade or if I am patient enough to wait for the sterile blades to start dropping.

Always loved the look of the 761, and the 765 certainly adds a lot of great features to that formula. The size alone makes it a knife I'd love to own, but that price is a non-starter. I love my Benchmades, and I've coughed up a fair amount of dough for them but the price is just silly on this one.

I've purchased a number of Benchmade's 2016 line up so far and all have been nothing short of stellar in terms of fit and finish. So, I've got a 765 en route. I feel like for the quality I've seen out of them this year, the materials, and the fact that it's a US made product, the price is fair. I could get a similar design and comparable materials for a little less with an import knife, I'm sure, but I really have been so impressed with Benchmade's level of manufacturing that I'm happy to give them my business.

Mine arrived today. And she's a beauty. I think I'll keep her.

Beautiful knife for sure, I would like to have one..........but......

I think I'm with Bill-B on this one, 300 bucks. For 300 dollars I expect a perfect finish on the blade, it's not, I see grind marks on the blade(from another picture). I don't like machined titanium clips. Yes I could make another clip, but why should I on a 300 dollar knife.

Knock off a hundred and then, yes.

I don't think the knife is priced too high. I guess I feel odd about buying a framelock from Benchmade. lol

Agreed on this one. Nice knives; the problem is in the asking price. For a production knife I would expect production pricing. Also regarding the inflexible Ti clips used, like on the 755 MPR, (which due to our demands for the later steel version...) that looked funky but which were more realistic when it came to pocket time, I would ask for an alternative here too.

Here is a look at it...

For my .02 worth, I love the knife. I have a 761 that I have used a lot. I love it. This one is a no brainer. At $300, it is well below a Sebenza and the blade holds an edge longer and it rides on bearings.

The design is excellent. I love the thinness. I know people have complained about the thin Ti, but I LOVE it. It is an elegant, well made knife.
