Benchmade 790 subrosa

I have one, love it. It feels like an extension of the hand. One gripe is the assisted opening but instead of removing it, I just got used to it and now i like it

Knives I have to Trade
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814765

Had one not too long ago. Loved it, but traded it for a knife I had my eyes on. I'll probably pick one up again later in the future.

You have a question on it?

I have one, and I bought one for my girlfriend... Blade steel is fantastic, handle is great, very comfortable, blade shape rocks, i've really only got one minor gripe with mine and that is blade play, mine has a little side to side wiggle whereas my girl's does not... I need to send it in... The ao isn't as smooth as Kershaw in my experience, not that that's a bad thing, they just feel different... I highly recommend the knife, slim profile carries well in the pocket, although the clip on mine doesn't pinch my pocket it just slides over (much like my 630 Skirmish).

I think part of the reason why I haven't sent it in yet is because I do like the knife so much and while I have a pretty good selection of nice blades, I find my edc rotates between the Subrosa, my Spec Bump, Boa and Speedform and I occasionally alternate others in as I see fit, but those 4 blades make up my general edc rotation and being without one for 6 weeks... Well, not sure how I'd handle that lol

Long story short, get one, you won't regret it. I'll probably snag a second one of these days just to have a backup...

I had one but ended up selling it because I wasn't a fan of the recurve or AO. But aside from that, it was a great knife -- great size, feel (both in hand and in pocket), and materials. The F&F/build quality was also excellent on mine: blade dead center, absolutely no blade play, nice, early framelock engagement, etc.

In sum, if you don't mind the recurve or AO, I think you'll really like the Subrosa.

I've read a couple posts stating that all you need to do to remove the AO is take the roller that contacts the tang off of the two torsion bars... Since AO doesn't bother me, I haven't tried but examining the knife, I think it would be about a 3 minute operation... Doesn't do much to fix the recurve though ;)

i love mine !
a great knife to carry: slim, long useable blade, a very good ergo on the handle and a nitrous system which works nicely ...
that's my best bought in 2010 !

I also own a 790 and think it's a great knife. On disabling the A/O rollers I would be very careful...without the tension provided by those two rollers there's not a helluva lot holding the blade inside the frame.

I love the blade, it's easier to sharpen than the recurve on the 710, and S30V is very good steel. The Ti slabs are comfy and the knife is very smooth.

It's easy to fix blade play...it uses a hex stop pin adjustable with a T6 Torx driver, and the pivot bolt uses the T10.

I give this knife a big Plus 1, and IMO think it's one of the best BKC models made in 2010.

I've rotated the stop pin, and tightened the pivot bolt, unfortunately, it seems in my particular knife, that once blade play is tightened out of the pivot, the knife barely opens... Definitely open to other suggestions if you've got em tho?? Sorry to hijack :(

I tried to remove AO in my Subrosa, but ball detent was very weak, very dangerous.
Quality of my knife... it's well made, but has terrible site to side BP and right nitrous spring is rubbing against the handle. I have to send it to BM.

I have exactly the same problem.

Its entirely possible they came from the same batch.. When I ordered, I ordered a pair, one for me and one for my GF, hers is perfect, mine is not... We were waiting on a batch to be sent to the dealer and one came from the new batch, one from the old... Not sure who's came from which, but hers locks up solid and mine, not so much...

I have one also and I really like the knife but their are a few things that bug me about it. The framelock sticks down kinda low when the blade is locked open and it's kinda tricky for me to find how tight to adjust the blade pivot screw. Too tight and the knife won't open and too loose the blade has a lot of play. Might need to send mine in for a tune up.

I sold mine.

They were extremely nice knives, very well made, but too large for carry for me and more importantly, tipdown carry only. If it was tip up, i could forgive the size.

They are the best knives I've ever owned

I had one for about a day and then returned it. The reasons for that had nothing to do with the quality, which was solid. Rather, I just don't want to elicit panic reactions to a large assisted-opening knife. I've had people ask me if my Kershaw Chive (tiny knife) was a switchblade; they'd probably call the police about this one. Beyond that, I'm not wild about how easily titanium scratches. Scratches really ugly up this particular knife. Some will say that scratches add "character." If that's true I'd be happy for someone to send me their new Sebenza and I'll add all sorts of character to it with a fork and some sandpaper. Lastly, this one for me just wasn't going to be terribly functional. Most of the things I do don't require this length of blade and I'm also a small guy so the 790 is just a little oversized.
