Hello guys. I detected a slight but for me noticable blade play in my knife. Are there any ways to get rid of it? Tightening the screws or something? Will Benchmade repair it for me if I send it to the factory? Thanks for replies.

You can tighten the pivot a little bit, which should remove the play. If the play is really bad, BM has a great customer service department. They would either fix it or replace it under warranty, as long as they don't find any "abuse".

When I tighten the pivot it is to much and a vertical slight play remains. When I loosen it the vertical blade disappears but the the horizontal play appears.:(

You need to find what is referred to as the "sweet spot", you also might be interested in adding some loctite to the pivot bolt to prevent perpetual adjustment of the screw.

I was actually enjoying the closing with one hand when disengaging the lock and the blade guilotined mi finger...

The 810 has a lot of tip-weight and is very good at being a guillotine. Also, Blade-Play in axis-lock knives is kind of a non-issue to me personally. There's not an increased chance of failure from slight blade-play (I imagine if it gets significant enough, there is probably an increased chance of failure but I've never had blade-play so bad that I questioned this).

My 810 has slight play, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I prefer it a bit loose. As EZ Bake said, you're not risking lock failure. The only thing you're in danger of is a deliciously smooth pivot allowing that slab of M4 to wrecking ball whatever it sees fit. Like your finger.

Benchmade has stated before that their larger Contego and Adamas will have some slight play in them and that is within spec (if you can sort of feel it but not see it, it's within spec). I wouldn't worry about it anyway, considering this lock test:

I like to set my Contago blade screw to have some drag so that the blade will not drop but move on it's own when the lock is released.
I have had the blade so free that it just dropped, I feel for you and your finger as it has some mass and would certainly do some damage.

My knife came kinda tightened up so and I was like: Why I dont have that smoothnes I see on videos and by custumizing the pivot screw I got that smoothnes with slight blade play and I was again very happy to have that smoothnes of axis but I was not used to it, released the lock and it fall and kinda cut me... Nevertheless I m huge fan of this knife and I m thinking about buying another one in different blade shape.

For clarity, are we talking about vertical play when opened and locked? Not lateral play, which is adjustable with the pivot?

Correct. The lateral play can be removed, but it is to be expected depending on how loose you keep your pivot. Benchmade said that some slight vertical play is within spec (can sort of feel it but there is nowhere close to enough to see it).

When the pivot is tightened up, yes I am talking about slight vertical play and I guess that we are talking about that one. I guess it is not a big deal than when it is in the spec.

Wild. I've got piles of Axis lock knives going all the way back to the first 710 and I've never seen one with vertical play. It may safe, but it wouldn't be satisfactory. :thumbdn:

My 710s (2 of 4), Adamas, Contego, and 1 minigrip have some lock rock. I remember reading some posts years ago about self adjusting properties of the Axis lock, but I never saw how this worked. It sounds like a good idea, but personally I cannot see how it would be possible.

There's a slight incline to the axis engagement surface on the blade. As the Axis bar slides forward, it wedges everything in place. I've heard, but not seen myself, that if the liners get dinged up they can interfere with the axis bar sliding all the way forward to lock everything up.

Something like that seems to be like my case. I think like the axis bar doesnt slide all the way up in place.

My experience is that it locks up with a little lock rocks sometimes and zero lock rock other times.I think it depends on how much inertia the blade has when the Axis lock engages. It is possible the lock does not engage the the blade at the exact same position every time.A heavier omega spring would fix this according to my thoughts, but then it would be harder to disengage the lock also. It's kind of like upgrading to heavier(more pounds) recoil spring on a semi auto pistol.....
