Benchmade 810 or Spyderco Paramilitary 2 , Which one ?

I've had both and my thoughts are the 810 will take pretty much anything you can throw at it. It will rust, however, if you work in a damp environment, unless you get the M390 version.

They are both easily opened and closed with one hand, which is nice. You mention cutting hoses and zip-ties, however. They both would be up to that task but the 810 won't even break a sweat with those duties. It is about a third larger in size as well, if that matters.

Have the KW M390 810 and LOVE how it has made cutting even copper wire seem effortless but no CCW at work is a BIG deal. I would come down between the two knives and just get yourself the Knifeworks ZT 0350 limited edition in M390. Costs a bit less than the LE 810 too and as the owner of 3 ZT 0350's including the LE M390, the KW 810 LE and formerly a PM2(the tip snapped off) the 0350 is a perfect balance of concealment and very reliable hard use. Have a standard S30V 0350 that I had professionally sharpened at Seattle Edge that out cuts nearly my whole collection lol...

I've owned and EDC'd Benchmade folders for several yrs in the past. I've owned many Spyderco models and love PM2's. Definitely get the PM2.

I've owned and carried both, and honestly even though the 810 is a beast of a blade, in my opinion it carried better than the PM2, at least for my setup. I carry my knife in the back corner of my right front pocket next to my phone, and the Contego is huge, but most of its size is just the length of it, so when it was in my pocket it would take up the back of that pocket from top to bottom, but I could still reach in front of it to get my phone, and especially with the deep carry clip it was out of the way until I needed it. While carrying the PM2 in that position, the height of the blade caused by the Spydie hole just took up too much space to get my hand easily past it to grab my phone, and the pocket clip was oddly placed to make room for the lanyard hole and left too much sticking out of my pocket. I did eventually stop carrying the PM2 and trading it, but all of the complaints I had with the knife were just personal preference, certainly no design flaws or lack of quality, it just wasn't for me. As far as using the knives the PM2 felt like it was crafted for the human hand in every way, which is definitely where the Contego fails, although after using the Contego in comparison, the PM2 felt a little too delicate for my liking, I never damaged it but it felt like I needed to be a lot more careful with it, the handle was extremely lightweight, I had a little less confidence in the compression lock than the Contego's oversized axis, the pivot was nothing compared to the axle holding the 810 together, and the blade was a sliver next to the Contego. After putting an EdgePro polish on both blades I thought the 810 was a better slicer and definitely held an edge for months longer than the PM2, but the PM2 was much easier to control in lighter and more precise tasks. As impressive as the slicing and edge capabilities of the Contego are, the most impressive factor for that knife in my opinion is definitely the strength, I've personally used that knife to cut open the sheet metal on a car door, pry wood doors and windows, and even stabbed it into a tree to use as a footpeg, and while those are all absolutely retarded things to try with a pocket knife and I would not advise such actions, the 810 will take abuse very well. The scales on the 810 are definitely the most uncomfortable things I've ever felt on anything that was intended to be held, no doubt about that, but with mine I ended up just taking a rasp to the high spots on the scales and it's 1000x better at this point. All of this is just my personal views sculpted by my personal uses however, it all depends on what qualities are important to you, these two knives are like apples and oranges, although they are both cutting tools, they were designed with completely different usage in mind. If you want comfortable and controllable, PM2, if you want a bulletproof pocket-Bowie, 810, judging by your choice selection I'd suggest you compromise and take a look at the BM 940 or even 940-1, I caved and bought the 940-1 when it came out last month, put my 810 deep carry pocket clip on it, and it is hands down my most favorite knife I've ever encountered. All up to you and your preferences though, let us know how it goes.
