Benchmade 913D2 Nitrous Stryker?

I have one, and it is a very well-made knife. The only problem I have with mine is that Benchmade's D2 seems to rust very (VERY) easily, the way they finish their uncoated blades. That wouldn't be a big deal with a coated knife, though. I would prefer the knife in S30V, 154CM or ATS34 (my "old school" Stryker is ATS34, and served me well for many years)

The "nitrous" system is the most ingenious AO system I've seen yet, it has a big cool factor. The new version has kept the classic design- except for the machining on the G10, which I kinda like. I do wish they had kept the option of the old (non-nitrous) Stryker around though, it is one of my all-time favorites.

I'm a big Stryker fan, have a number of them so was a little unsure about a Stryker in drop point, and less so about the Nitrous mechanism. I'd tried a 670 Optimizer model and hated the stiff A/O function, opting out for the manual (bar removed) choice.

Since, I now own both 913 and smaller 907 models and absolutely love how well the Nitrous mechanics work. First, I love Benchmade's D2, and as I live inland in a dry environ, have had no issues with rust. Second, the difference in designs between the Optmizer and Nitrous (IMO) designs are like night and day.

On the 913, I sent it to a friend who (yes) disassembled the knife, buffed all mating surfaces and washers with 6000 grit material, and then did a thorough Militec treatment on all the metal parts.

As a result of this, it's as smooth as any of my autos, and also is a lot quieter as it opens.

On the 913, I've done nothing but lube it with Tuf-Glide and worked the mechanism a few hunderd times and it's very smooth, although there are small differences between full and mini, the main on the 907 being the blade's thinner and lighter, so it pops almost as fast as the 913.

Also the G-10 on the 907 is tackier and not as slick as on the 913's, looks like a new formula was added to the newer 907.

The short version: Get one, they're really great!

moonwilson, do you live/work near the ocean? I have a 710D2, and it has never rusted. I have used that knife a whole lot! I have seen rust on some of my carbon steel knives, but never anything D2 (and I have a few D2 knives)

I think it's one of the best AO's available.

Great build quality (including a thick locking liner), and excellent AO action.
It's also relatively light in weight for its size. Nice and slim carry, too.

Benchmade did a really good job on this one.
