Benchmade 940 / 943 Osborne Handle Coating Durability

TP, your 943 looks better than a new one to my eyeballs.

And for those who care, the polished loop-over deep carry clip from the Rift will fit the 940/943.

My entire life I've always babied all of my possessions. I never wanted to risk losing, breaking, wearing in things etc. When I think about how many things I never enjoyed while they were collecting dust It really bums me out.

My first year of knife collecting was no different. I owned a few 943s and 940s and never carried them cause I didn't want to scratch the scales. I only carried knives that I didn't really like. And as a result I slowly lost interest in them. I finally comitted to carrying and using only my favorites the way they were intended and my passion and enjoyment is bigger than ever. Knives are meant to be used and enjoyed.

So my opinion is use that sucker and enjoy it! You never know how much time you have here so enjoy while you can. And hey 943s are really popular. .. you can always buy another down the road haha

Can't wait til April for the release of the 940-1's. I think I too will be Frankensteining the blade out with a 943 like was said in an earlier post. Pre - ordered from blade hq already. Anyone have experience with their pre ordering process?

Oh and the carbon fiber will definitely make the scales 10 X's more durable lol, at least to staying crispy as a gentleman's folder. This knife will definitely be getting some serious use!!!

As soon as I get a Benchmade with a painted clip I swap it for either a chrome or parkerized one. BM will send you one for free.

The coating on all of their aluminum handles is very fragile, unfortunately. I've had straight-line marks appear on both my Infidel and 2550 Mini-Reflex from just rubbing up against my denim pocket while trying to outdraw a buddy's Emerson.

Sucked to both lose the contest and some handle coating at the same time. Love the knives, though.

I have to admit, it makes me afraid to carry my Gold Class 940-121 without being in the bag, I'm afraid it will wear off easily as well. It's so nice looking, any marks will make me pretty deflated. I want it to stay as nice as it is, but would love to use it, too.

I was dead-set on walking out of Cabela's with a 940 yesterday, but that notion changed after handling it in the store. I didn't like the feel of the textured aluminum. My 1st impression was that it would scuff and mar very easily. My answer to this dilemma is that I'm going to hold-out until the 940-1 with carbon fiber scales is released later this year. That's awesome looking knife and I love CF, although I've never handled Benchmade's version of CF.

I'm getting a great deal on a pre-owned, hardly used, 940. I'm sure the "feel" will grow on me and it will hold me over until the 940-1 is released. In between, I have the 531 on pre-order too.

Thanks. Do I ask for anything special when I talk to them?

Tell them the model you're asking for when calling so they can include the right length screws, and there's so far never been a charge. I've always suspected they, like we, consider clips to be consumables. I sure mess mine up a lot bouncing into door and car frames. And yes, I like to keep the original clips on mine, but you can probably ask for whatever you want.

I emailed BM. Told them I loved the 940 but a deep carry clip would make it even nicer. I was sent a reply asking for my address and told a deep carry clip set is on it's way free of charge

@DeathGripScales your 940 scales looks amazing! I've bought one just a few days ago and I do not mind scratching it. The only question I have is how the handle feels after all this time? I mean is it still grippy at least a bit?
