I'm about to get my g26 cerakoted tungsten grey and I'm considering getting my handle and back spacer cerakoted in the same color. Does anyone have experience cerakoting aluminum? My gunsmith assured me it would look great but I doubt he would tell me it would look bad to be honest. Have any of you done this or something similar? Pictures would be much appreciated.

If you are curious as to how he personally can perform with cerakoting Alum, ask to see if he has any photos of his work on alum framed firearms.

As for how effective and durable it is for a handle, I am not sure.
Keep in mind, wedding ring, watch and other metals may scratch it.

I would also look into what coating Benchmade has used in their original coating.

He has coating one of my glocks already and it looks perfect. I'm curious about how it will look on a knife as I've never seen it done before. Especially with a nearly $200 knife.

I've never had Cerakote done on the blade, but I've had it applied to framelocks, etc. It's a durable finish, but does wear after a time.

Cerakote on aluminum or steel will look the same... It is reasonably durable but toker had it right, it will wear. You can check out pics with different colors on different blades that I've done here for ideas.

Thanks for the link those look great. Will cerakote wear less than the aluminum coating?

No its generally accepted that cerakote is not as durable as Type III hard anodizing if that's what you're referring to.

The handle coating on the 940 seems to come off very easily in my experience. So cerakoting over it would actually come off easier?

I don't know what type anodizing benchmade uses, so I can't say. I was referring to ar15 anodized to milspec standards which is type 3 is tougher than cerakote in my experience and from what I've read.

When you cerakote you don't do it over other finishes, you sandblast to the bare metal first so all of that ano would come off prior to the cerakote application.

Alright I guess I'm going to let him throw some tungsten on it and see how it turns out. In the event of it looking terrible, are there any good aftermarket scales for a 940 avaliable? Thanks alot for the help Josh, I really appreciate it.

Cerakote is great when done properly, prep is critical to durability.

Take a look in here, a few people make scales for Benchmade. I am not sure about the 940 in particular due to the partial liners.

Death of all things is a member on this forum that makes aftermarket 940 scales i'm pretty sure, he's got a thread in the custom knife services section.

My friend THAT is beautiful. How durable is the coating?

When it's preped, applied and cured properly it's very durable. That being said I have seen lots of inferior work on factory knives. I have used it for years on guns and knives and like it. All coating wear and at different levels depending on use and conditions. Cerakote has a cool factors as colors are infinite.

Ryan, DOAT, makes fantastic scales for the 94x!!
Here are 2 he's done for me.
Excellent service and a great guy to deal with!
