any body else have a problem with this knife, i bought it wish such high hopes, and it has just failed ever since, im wondering if i got a fake thats how terrible the knife is.. problem i have with it is basicllly the pivit screw and the lock up. ever since i bough it the lock up side so side wiggle was terrible. and i bought it brand new in box. tried tightening the pivit screw and that works for a couple deploys then goes back, or right after u tighten it if you wiggle the blade id just gets lose again, idk what the problem is and yes ive tryed lock tight. doesnt do shit. andddd when i tighten the screw enough to fix the lock up, it compramises the speed of the blade pretty bad.im just completlly upset with the knife wondering how others feel. and also are there fake benchmades out there and can you tell if you have one? i did buy mine off ebay, but it was nib so i have no idea, but the $140 940 osborne blows... so upset. my mini grip makes it look like a $3 knife.

Take it apart, put it back together, get locktite blue 242, apply it, wait 24 hours, problems solved. Unless you have factory issues, in that case send it back to benchmade and get it fixed. I've carried mine for 6 months and haven't had a problem.

Hey G, I would just recommend sending it to Benchmade and letting them figure it out. I recently sent in an 810 Contego with a relatively minor issue, and they paid for shipping in both directions. If you grab this one by the horns, in two weeks you'll have your 940 back and all will be well.

what if i put my own edge on the knife already will they care about that? and it has alot of pocket ware and what not. manly just the pocket clip

I know you said you did lock tite but did you give it a chance to sit and work and dry?
If not, you were moving around the part it was trying to lock into place and that's why it didn't work.
When tightening the pivot screw to where you think is tight enough, get it to that point then just barely move the driver to untighten it just a little. Like a millimeter in length back.
Check it real fast, then leave it if it's tight enough.

That should help with the smoothness of the action. Also, it may need slight break in time.

You could send Benchmade an email asking questions and if you can't get the problem solved, send it in and they should fix it. Also, the knife really doesn't suck, give it a chance, you just got a lemon is all.

No, they won't care about pocket wear or that you sharpened it.

Question.. how long have you had the knife? Were the problems showing right out of the box or after you started using it?

ya i know i got a lemon cause everyone else i talk to says they love it and it has solid lock up, and ya i did give locktight a chance many times, i know how to adjust the screw and all that not my first rodeo, but even when i adjust it, ahh idk MY knife sucks lol i mean i can adjust my grip and mini grip and all my other knifes but this one is just f'd when i get it to be solid speed is comprimised no matter what, ya im talkn micro meters in turns of that screw.. like i said all my other benchmades make it look like a gas station knife.. i think im gunna call/ email them.. cause if it was solid and as smooth as my other benchmades i would love the knife, love the weight looks and feel but i cant even carry it cause it makes me so upset everytime i pull it out, not to mention i cant show it off to anyone cause it blows..

Benchmade has great customer service. Go to their website and print off the service request and send it in. It will come back in great shape.

I'm sorry to be this guy, but please use periods. I cannot read your posts. I can excuse most grammatical mistakes, since no one is perfect, but these are just unbearable. I really do want to help you with your problem, but I cannot understand what you are trying to say.

lmao, ya sorry, i am very bad at spelling and writing period. especially when im ranting about something that upsets me. sorry boss.

Your gonna have to use lock tight in the pivot. Let it sit over night. And when adjusting the pivot use very very miner adjustments to fine the sweet spot.

I've owned over twenty 940/941's and they all act that way.

I'm still not sure if you've done this or not because I can't understand you.

Thank you for saying this a lot nicer than I would have managed to. ;)

I've had one since they first came out and it has exceeded every expectation I had for it. Great design, great knife. If it *is* a BM, they will make it right. Ship it to the factory.

I have carried a 942 (all black reverse tanto 154CM) for over ten years. Almost every day. It has been dropped, abused, retrieved from 15 feet underwater in the ocean (not easy with an all black knife!), and has ALWAYS been 100%. If I ever had to depend on a folding knife to save my life, it would be an Osborne 940. My guess is that you have a counterfeit or an extremely rare defect.
I hope you get the issue resolved.

I had the exact same problem with the 940 when I first bought it. Side to side play was terrible and whenever I tightened it it would revert to its old sloppiness in a couple flips.

Get some red loctite and set the screw exactly how you want it and dont touch it overnight. After that stuff cures it'll be good to go. It's been 3 years since I first got it and I havent had a pivot issue since.

I know this is a buried topic but I just got a 740 and was wondering what is an acceptable amount of "wiggle". I would like for the blade to be as loose and free floating as possible but it will mean my blade will wiggle like its Saturday night at the local boogy bar. On the other-hand if I tighten it up to get rid of the wiggle it will then be so tight I need to use both hands to open it...

Mainly I'm wondering what the normal amount of acceptable of movement from wiggle and from action of the blade.
